How much is too much to spend on a gift for christmas?

I was wondering is $300 too much to spend on a gift for my thirteen year old goddaughter?I was leaning towards a Coach purse for her.Or should I go with a less expensive Dooney and Bourke?

How much is too much to spend on a gift for christmas?
I would say that's too much. She's only 13 so she's probably never worked before. I think teens need to learn the value of a dollar before they're handed such expensive gifts. I personally would rather have ten $30 purses than one $300 purse.
Reply:You cant have a $$$ amount
Reply:if she means a lot to you then i would say like 200 at most, she's 13 not 16 =)
Reply:I think that you should take into account what your average 13 year old girl is like. It can be very hurtful when you spend a lot of cash on something that they say they really want and, six months later you discover that she's a} lost it. b) swapped it for something worth a lot less, or c) leaves the £200 gift on her bedroom floor for the dog to chew. Their tastes change very quickly at that age and though they know the cost of everything they know the value of nothing as they've never had to work for it. You will probably find that if you buy her something inexpensive, but incredibly hip in the opinion of her classmates, you will score more points and, in any case, if she's your God Daughter, her memories of what you have done with her at this age, rather than what you bought her will be more important to her later. The gift may be long gone, but you can't take away memories of a trip to a show , concert or a cool day out. My daughter still talks about a birthday picnic when we were flat broke!
Reply:i think if you should figure out if she is crazy over it first. because 4 myself i hate those kinds. i like sparkling and that sticks out a lot.
Reply:Are you nuts?! $300 could feed an entire third-world country one meal!

That's a little eccentric... No offense...

The most you should probably spend is about $50.
Reply:A gift is only too much if you cannot afford it, meaning it will create a financial challenge for you. It is the thought that counts most of all. You should really purchase an item that you like which you think she would like also.
Reply:more than you can afford
Reply:NO I Don't Think SO But Only If u have a good job
Reply:If you're looking at a Bentley or a Maserati I really think you should reconsider and think if you might be going a wee bit over the top.
Reply:Make sure her mother isn't spending less than that! Cause I would be kind of pissed if I were her mom. You should go for the Coach -- she won't know exactly how much it cost anyway.
Reply:I agree with the first person that posted on here.
Reply:If you can buy this without going into debt or imposing any undue hardship on yourself, go ahead and get it.
Reply:wow i love dooeny and bourke if she want the coach get it but if she doent know what shes getting then get the dooeny and bourke but if you get the DB get the wallet to macth merry christmas
Reply:you cant put a price on love...(300$ is a good price) your a very good godmother..i wish mine was like you =)

~merry christmas~
Reply:is too much money....she is too young to truly "appreciate" that kind of presents. Go for something shipper and meaninful (Something that you know she likes or would like to get)
Reply:I would go with the jc penny brand. Kids lose thins and they dont take care of stuff like that. Test her out with a least expensive one.
Reply:you should buy her a rack of clothes!
Reply:I honestly don't think price should matter AT ALL. If it comes from the heart then that's all that should matter. Just don't go over board and end up broke because of a gift. If you love her that much and can afford to do it then by all means go for it. Just make sure that she knows that material things should NEVER matter, family, love, and togetherness comes 1st, and just because she got a $300 present this year doesn't mean that's what she should always expect. because sometimes Times are hard, you know what i mean? N*E*Ways GOOD LUCK and I hope I helped.
Reply:Well I'm 16, and I got a Louis Vuitton purse for Christmas last year, and my Mom wouldn't tell my how much it cost, but I looked on the their website, and it was expensive.

I think if it's in your budget, and your daughter would truly like one, then go for it. If YOU cannot afford it, then don't get it. Stay within your budget.

I can tell you that most teenage girls would rather have coach, because it's ... coach, and fits with the "teen scene".

hope this helps!
