If you have started to look at Christmas recipes, could you recommend something to take as a gift?

Something that would be nice as a hostess gift, or to take as a gift for an evening party?

Especially for Christmas Eve?

Thank you!

If you have started to look at Christmas recipes, could you recommend something to take as a gift?
I can see why this is in recipes - The questioner is asking for a recipe to take to give as a gift.

I have found that I can put all the dry ingredients for my favorite chocolate chip or brownie recipe in a quart jar, then write the recipe on a card, and give that.

Or you can make hot chocolate powder, and give in a pint jar.

Or, layer (again in a quart jar), white northern beans, kidney beans, black beans, black-eye peas, lentils, dry yellow peas, dry green peas, and/or any other kind of beans or peas you like; in a small ziplok bag, put your favorite spices, and give this jar of soup mix!

Anything you make and package yourself becomes a very special and thoughtful gift.
Reply:Two ideas (and I have recipes for both, if you should choose them).

1. Homemade biscotti packed in a Christmas tin or bag with the recipe attached.

2. Homemade Bailey's Irish Cream in a decorative bottle with the recipe attached.

Both recipes are super easy!
Reply:Mint Snowballs

1/2 Cup Icing Sugar

1/2 Cup Shortening

1/2 Cup Butter

1/2 Tsp Peppermint Flavouring

2 Cups All Purpose Flour

1/2 Tsp Salt

Cream sugar, shortning, butter, and extract thourghly. Measure flour WITHOUT sifting into wax paper, add salt and blend well. Now add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Mix well. Form into one inch balls, place on cookie sheet and cook in 400F oven 8-10minutes. Cool on rack. Dip tops in icing, pink and green, then in coconut. Yield 4-4 1/2 dozen.

Reply:A sure fire winner is what we call "Pink Ambrosia"

It calls for:

1 can of sweetened evaporated milk

2 cans crushed pinapple (strain and drink the juice)

2 can dark cherry pie filling (strain and add cherries later)

(you can add coconut and/or nuts but not everyone likes them and I never add them.

Mix all these togeather and fold into the whipped cream, and it should turn a pink (reg cherry) or purple (dark cherry).

2 large containers of Dream Whip (or generic)

Then lightly fold in the cherries.

Put it in a bowl you will be taking to the party and put in the refrigerator to set.

It is a desert that I have been told is "addictive".

fudge

peppermint creams

rose creams

rum truffles

marzipan fruits

turkish delight

marshmallows
Reply:If you've been canning any tomato products or jams or pickles while they're in season, they can be a delightful gift any time of year.

Baked items are also welcome, just don't expect the hostess to use your gift that evening unless it's been discussed in advance. A lot of people don't bake for themselves anymore, so even simple baked goods can be appreciated.
