Use it as a partial pay on your next purchase. Hurry before they take it away by adding on fees!
Reply:re-gift ???
Reply:you can use it towards your next purchase...or if it is only a couple of cents you can throw it away....or you can reload it for future use.....

How do I set up a gift card for online purchases?

I know that Visa Gift Cards can be used online. Can all gift cards (like American Express) be used online?

And back to my original question:

Say I want to order something from Ebay or Amazon. When it asks me for a billing information, do I just enter the information on the gift card? Do I need to click any special link that makes sure the site knows I'm using a gift card or do I just treat the gift card as if it were a credit card?

Thanks in advance

How do I set up a gift card for online purchases?
To answer your question, Visa and American Express gift cards can be used for online shopping. These gift cards work just like a regular credit card. You don’t really have to “set up” anything for the transaction. Just make sure your card is activated if it isn’t already before using it.

You may want to visit the following site to learn more about online shopping with gift cards: http://www.debit-card-guide.com/epayment... There’s a lot of useful information there to help you learn the ropes of e-payments, especially how to keep your personal information protected and ensure your online transactions are secure.

Hope this helps!

Timeshare as a gift to family how is it reported for tax purpose?

Purchase of time share I would like to leave it to my 4 nephews and nieces as a gift. how would I set this up with the IRS so the Tax consequence is understood.

Timeshare as a gift to family how is it reported for tax purpose?
You may donate up to $12,000 per recipient per year to an unlimited number of recipients without having to file a Gift Tax Return or pay any Gift Tax. Structure the donation so that you don't donate any more equity than that per recipient per year and there are no reporting or filing requirements.

There are no reporting requirements for the recipients nor do they pay any tax on the gift as gift taxes are levied only upon the donor.
Reply:OK, so yet again, why the thumbs down on the above answer? Looks correct and complete to me.

What's the credit card or gift certificate that can be used for any store?

I need a credit card or gift certificate for a 9 year old girl and she won't tell me what she wants so i want to give her a credit card/gift certificate thing that can be used for any store but i don't know what it's called. I know it existed because i have seen it before. But, i don't know what it is called. So, if you know, please ansswer and help! THank you!

What's the credit card or gift certificate that can be used for any store?
I purchased VISA gift cards for my grandchildren at Wells Fargo. You can buy any denomination. They are able to take these cards anywhere they wish and spend them. You can even have their name placed on the card like a credit card, although to do this, you need to special order them. It takes around a week.

They really liked having their own card, and that way they were able to choose where they wished to shop.

Happy Holidays!

What should I bring as a gift to a family in Mexico that is letting me stay at their place?

I'm traveling down to Jilisco in Mexico with a friend who has family living in the area. They are letting us stay at their ranch for a week and i wanted to give them a thank you gift for the generosity they are showing us.

Any ideas on an appropriate gift?

What should I bring as a gift to a family in Mexico that is letting me stay at their place?
You might want to talk with your friend to find out a bit more about their interests or needs. Some items imported into Mexico are MUCH more expensive than in the US or other countries, so if they are looking to purchase an iPod or something similar for a family member, it would be a great gift for you to bring that.

Also, you might want to consider items made or produced in your home area. These do not have to be expensive. For example, I have purchased maple sugar, maple sugar candy, and children's books about sugaring for gifts for my son's school when he was here in Mexico. (We had lived previously in northeast Ohio).

If there are younger children in the family, you might want to bring each of them some special small item. Or, if you wish, you can learn more about the family members while you are there and then send additional gifts back with your friend at a later date.

Another option (if you are a cook!) is to prepare a special meal or dessert for the family while you are there. If it requires ingredients unique to your region, make sure you pack them with you (and make sure you are allowed to bring them in!)

But most of all, enjoy your time in Jalisco... what a wonderful opportunity!
Reply:I'll say that the easiest thing will be a shirt of your city, the big apple, the windy city, etc etc....

And yeah electronics are expensive in Mexico.
Reply:Yes! After all they are being kind to let you live at thier place, while others would say no. You should them a gift card if you are not certain what they might like.
Reply:A cash gift always welcome.
Reply:electronics, dvd, movies, video games.
Reply:I used to take fancy canned foods with me to give to my Mexican friends (Restaurant quality lasagna and soups sell for a huge premium in Mexico and are cheap and easy to buy wholesale in the US).

I really stocked up on stuff for kids I met. I bought tons of crayons and colored felt pens and coloring books (those were a big hit). Cheap Frisbees and water pistols were also in big demand and we had fun squirting each other. I bought dozens of gaily painted t-shirts at thrift shops and discount stores and almost started a riot when I gave those away.

I got into the habit of cooking large amounts of food and had plenty of coffee, sun tea and Kool Aid on hand. I invited folks to join me in a meal which often started an impromptu pot luck affair. Passing around my guitar for a group sing-a-long was fun too. It was a great way to enjoy meeting the people.

The generosity of the people I met was heart warming. I always had to be careful not to admire something a poor person had because they would literally give you the shirt off their back if they thought you would like to have it. I am not a wealthy person, but I was wealthy by the standards of the people I met. Keep that in mind and try to maintain a humble attitude.

What is the best wedding gift to a friend who took a wife recently?

I have a very good friend who married about a week ago. I couldn't attend his wedding ceremony because I was out of town for business. I need to present a fitting wedding gift to my friend and wife. Please advise what is best for a wedding gift.?

What is the best wedding gift to a friend who took a wife recently?

Reply:First check if they are registered. If so, get something off the list. If not, I highly recommend a gift card from Target. If you want something more personal, look around a store that carries engraved items such as a nice silver picture frame, just make sure you spell their names right.
Reply:Find out if they are "registered" anywhere and get a gift from the list.

Or just give them something from your heart. No matter what the gift is its the thought put behind it that counts.
Reply:Gift card!
Reply:a door knocker is always nice with there last name and year
Reply:Money!
Reply:As a couple others have mentioned, a registry is a good place to start if they have one.

If not, or if you don't wish to get them something from the list (and it's more than acceptable to choose to do this; a registry is a wish list, not an order form), then think about your friend and his lady. What do they enjoy? What special memories to you share with them?

Then find or create something that sums up who you think they are.

I know when my husband and I were married, while we appreciated and loved the things that came from our registry list, the things that showed real imagination and remind us most strongly of the givers are the ones I treasure most. It's things like the painting of a polar bear in the snow one friend did for us and the left-handed bread knife my matron of honor found for me that make my day every time I look at them, fourteen years later.

Whatever you give them, give it from the heart and give it with love. If your friend is any friend at all, he'll be touched.

It's going to be a movie night gift basket for my boyfriend, it's for our 2 year annversy, and I cant buy him stuff , like video games or high price things like that , so instend I'm going to make a basket , any ideas.

What kind of food should I put in a gift basket, for movie night?
Happy Anniversary! You didn't say how old you two are, but I suspect that you're still in your teens. So what do teens like?

Salt, sugar, and fat! Here are some ideas:

1. Chips and salsa or dip

2. Popcorn that you pop in the microwave

3. Beef Jerkey, or if you have the dough, buy some salami and

cheese

4. Candy: Reeses' cups, sourpatch kids, hershey bars, laffytaffy

Dots, Malted Milk Balls, Raisinettes (you can often

get 2 for the price of one)

5. Your favorite soft drink or sparkling cider

6. A gift book you make yourself with coupons he can redeem

when he wants, such as "Good for one free kiss" or "Good for

one free back rub". Use your imagination and have fun!

7. Have someone take a couple of polaroids of you and buy an

inexpensive frame for them. They make a nice addition!

Have fun!
Reply:This is a really good idea, but making baskets can end up being a little pricey...include popcorn (microwave), twizzlers, milk duds, etc...
Reply:I would get a gift card to a movie rental place like blockbuster that would pay for a couple of movie rentals. Then add in a couple kinds of candy you know he likes .....like junior mints or snow caps or something like that, and get the box sizes like they sell at the movies. You have to include some popcorn, and a bottle of soda for the two fo you to share. Then you can add some napkins to the basket, and a candle that you can light when the two of you are watching the movie.

Have fun, that's a great idea!!!
Reply:Kraft macaroni and cheese, the blue box blue.
Reply:popcorn, milkduds, red vines, soda, kleenex for sad movies
Reply:Blockbuster (or your local movie rental place) gift certificate, licorice, chex mix, cracker jack, gum, M%26amp;M's, skittles, soda, cookies, snack mix, popcorn, and more candy
Reply:popcorn, soda, chips (like nachos), cheese dip, mini soft pretzel bites (microwaveable ones), candy in boxes like theaters do, any other foods he likes. also, put one or two of his favorite movies or a video store//movie theater gift certificate.

just put any food that you would get at a movie. they even sell toppings for your popcorn in different flavors, like nacho cheese and a bunch of others. then you sprinkle it on top. thats at this store called "le gourmet chef". it might be at your local mall, its at some around me. also, instead of a plain, boring basket, put it in a container that looks like a popcorn container, just made out of hard plastics instead. make his card look like movie tickets.
Reply:siliver ware popcorn kool aid jello chip cookie dip
Reply:My boyfriend's mom makes us a "movie date night basket" every year for Christmas. She gets a couple of DVDs that she knows we would like ( this year it was both the Pirates of the Caribbean...) to that she adds a couple of bags of popcorn, mini coffee bags ( we both love coffee), a can of mixed nuts, pringles, chex party mix, a couple of jumbo candy bars, some of the movie candy they sell at Wal-Mart like the junior mints, sugar babies, etc.....It's the best gift we get every year!!
Reply:Of course the movie

Popcorn

Licorice

Milk Duds

gummy bears

candles- holders

Great idea, Love it.
Reply:Popcorn definetly, skittles, junior mints, sour patch kids, anything that you can buy at the theater. Make sure you have some soda or water to wash down that popcorn, maybe put a few movies that you two like in there, you may even want to put in pj's, slippers and a blanket for cuddling.
Reply:bags of microwave popcorn or just pop some up yourself and put in a bag, hot tamales, junior mints, a 2 liter of pop or a couple smaller bottles, napkins :) , some DVD's from the WalMart 4.99 bin , they have some great titles.

You can actually go nuts making these baskets, the possibilities are endless. Just remember buy the time you buy a lot of this stuff you could have bought a video game! :)
Reply:I would say, microwavable popcorn, chips, salsa, stuff to maybe make smores.
Reply:You could put beer or sodas, popcorn, candy, nuts, chips.
Reply:You should go to Blockbuster or whatever and get those movie theatre popcorn tubs. Then get a different kind of candy box for everyone that comes to the party so they are kind of personalized and put a drink in it. It's fun and guaranteed that everyone will enjoy it!

What is the appropriate amount of money to spend on a wedding gift?

I'm a bridesmaid in the wedding of a close friend. I'm already spending a fair amount of money on the event ($500 plane ticket, $350 hotel, $40 engagement gift, $60 shoes). The bride genersouly paid for all the bridesmaid dresses.

Also, if it's relevant, I'm a student and my annual income is $17,500. How much should I spend on the gift?

What is the appropriate amount of money to spend on a wedding gift?
As much as you feel like giving %26amp; can afford %26amp; if the bride %26amp; groom have any class they will be delighted %26amp; grateful for whatever they receive. There is no set amount that's proper %26amp; it would be completely crass for anyone to feel a gift was not enough.
Reply:$300
Reply:If this person considers you a good enough friend to have you as a member of her wedding party, then she probably knows what your financial situation is. Therefore, do not feel obligated to spend more than you can afford on the present. If you do not want to buy an item off her registry (one that is in your budget), then consider an item that would be personal.

They are probably going to have a honeymoon right? Take lots of pictures? Buy a nice scrapbook, and pre-fill out the pages with various stickers, pre-cut papers, decorations, etc. that are traveled themed. You could even label some of the pages with fancy writing (or letter stickers if you are not that artistic) like our favorite restaurant, our favorite day together, etc.

You can get these items at any craft or scrapbook store, and she probably would be so touched by the gift because it Will be unique and personally made with love from you. THAT FAR OUT WEIGHS ANY STORE BOUGHT GIFT! Good luck, and have fun at her wedding :)
Reply:Buy the cheapest item on their registry. Hey...they picked it.

How much is too much to spend on a gift for christmas?

I was wondering is $300 too much to spend on a gift for my thirteen year old goddaughter?I was leaning towards a Coach purse for her.Or should I go with a less expensive Dooney and Bourke?

How much is too much to spend on a gift for christmas?
I would say that's too much. She's only 13 so she's probably never worked before. I think teens need to learn the value of a dollar before they're handed such expensive gifts. I personally would rather have ten $30 purses than one $300 purse.
Reply:You cant have a $$$ amount
Reply:if she means a lot to you then i would say like 200 at most, she's 13 not 16 =)
Reply:I think that you should take into account what your average 13 year old girl is like. It can be very hurtful when you spend a lot of cash on something that they say they really want and, six months later you discover that she's a} lost it. b) swapped it for something worth a lot less, or c) leaves the £200 gift on her bedroom floor for the dog to chew. Their tastes change very quickly at that age and though they know the cost of everything they know the value of nothing as they've never had to work for it. You will probably find that if you buy her something inexpensive, but incredibly hip in the opinion of her classmates, you will score more points and, in any case, if she's your God Daughter, her memories of what you have done with her at this age, rather than what you bought her will be more important to her later. The gift may be long gone, but you can't take away memories of a trip to a show , concert or a cool day out. My daughter still talks about a birthday picnic when we were flat broke!
Reply:i think if you should figure out if she is crazy over it first. because 4 myself i hate those kinds. i like sparkling and that sticks out a lot.
Reply:Are you nuts?! $300 could feed an entire third-world country one meal!

That's a little eccentric... No offense...

The most you should probably spend is about $50.
Reply:A gift is only too much if you cannot afford it, meaning it will create a financial challenge for you. It is the thought that counts most of all. You should really purchase an item that you like which you think she would like also.
Reply:more than you can afford
Reply:NO I Don't Think SO But Only If u have a good job
Reply:If you're looking at a Bentley or a Maserati I really think you should reconsider and think if you might be going a wee bit over the top.
Reply:Make sure her mother isn't spending less than that! Cause I would be kind of pissed if I were her mom. You should go for the Coach -- she won't know exactly how much it cost anyway.
Reply:I agree with the first person that posted on here.
Reply:If you can buy this without going into debt or imposing any undue hardship on yourself, go ahead and get it.
Reply:wow i love dooeny and bourke if she want the coach get it but if she doent know what shes getting then get the dooeny and bourke but if you get the DB get the wallet to macth merry christmas
Reply:you cant put a price on love...(300$ is a good price) your a very good godmother..i wish mine was like you =)

~merry christmas~
Reply:is too much money....she is too young to truly "appreciate" that kind of presents. Go for something shipper and meaninful (Something that you know she likes or would like to get)
Reply:I would go with the jc penny brand. Kids lose thins and they dont take care of stuff like that. Test her out with a least expensive one.
Reply:you should buy her a rack of clothes!
Reply:I honestly don't think price should matter AT ALL. If it comes from the heart then that's all that should matter. Just don't go over board and end up broke because of a gift. If you love her that much and can afford to do it then by all means go for it. Just make sure that she knows that material things should NEVER matter, family, love, and togetherness comes 1st, and just because she got a $300 present this year doesn't mean that's what she should always expect. because sometimes Times are hard, you know what i mean? N*E*Ways GOOD LUCK and I hope I helped.
Reply:Well I'm 16, and I got a Louis Vuitton purse for Christmas last year, and my Mom wouldn't tell my how much it cost, but I looked on the their website, and it was expensive.

I think if it's in your budget, and your daughter would truly like one, then go for it. If YOU cannot afford it, then don't get it. Stay within your budget.

I can tell you that most teenage girls would rather have coach, because it's ... coach, and fits with the "teen scene".

hope this helps!

How do you handle giving a charitable donation in lieu of a gift as requested?

A friend of ours asked that instead of giving gifts for her birthday, she would rather prefer us to donate $ to charities on the invitation. How do we do this? Do we put a check in her card written out to the organization? Is it appropriate to also give a small gift to her as well?

How do you handle giving a charitable donation in lieu of a gift as requested?
If you are doing the donation "in lieu of gifts", then giving a gift also would be tacky. You probably won't offend the friend, but you make make her or other guests feel uncomfortable if others did not bring gifts.

As far as the donation, you should make the donation to the organization yourself, with a notation that you are making the donation in honor of your friend's birthday, rather than giving your friend the check. Giving her the check will make her party seem more like a fundraiser for the cahrity than a birthday party.

Sometimes, the charity may have a card stating something along the lines of "a donation has been made in your name". If they do not have a card, then specify which charity you danated to in a simple note inside your friend's birthday card.

To make the donation special, make sure you donate to a charity that your friend supports. (Ex: Donating to a Christian church-based group would be inappropriate if your friend is Jewish)

Some charities seem to have a particular niche ("all proceeds will go to dwarf bisexual Eskimo bikers") If you are not sure of which charity she supports, be sure to choose something fairly neutral, like Habitat For Humanity, the United Way, or the American Cancer Society.
Reply:Well, this is what I do when I donate to a charity in another's name:

I send a card with a note saying, the enclosed check is in honor or in the memory of xxxx. You can include your friend's name and address so that the charity can send her a note or card saying a donation was made in her name.

As for birthday gifts, you probably don't have to give anything since she asked for charitable contributions. But, if you still want to bring something, a card and a balloon or a small bouquet of flowers may be appropriate.
Reply:A lot of charities, if you ask them to, will give you a card showing that you donated in that person's name. If so, you can give them the card. As for giving her a small gift, it isn't necessary, but I doubt she'll hate you for it.

What are some inexpensive holiday gift ideas for teachers?

I have four children and would like to give an inexpensive gift to all of their teachers. Grade 5, grade 3, and grade 1 as well as an infant in a daycare. I want to give them all a gift that shows appreciation for what tthey do but with out breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

What are some inexpensive holiday gift ideas for teachers?
Everyone in my immediate family, except me, is a teacher. They say that they really appreciate donations for their classroom (supplies, stickers, nice note paper) since they usually end up paying for these things out of their own pockets. If you package it up really nice, I think it makes a great gift. Gift certificates are great as well (for a nearby coffee place or a teacher supply store.) Chocolates and coffee make great gifts, too.

Whatever you do, don't give them mugs or Christmas ornaments. These are given to teachers by the dozen, are usually pretty cheesy, and end up in a box somewhere, stored away.
Reply:I taught school for many years. To show appreciation, sit down with your child and write a note which explains why that teacher is important, special, thoughtful, etc. Have the child tell you, organize the answer with these specifics, and have the child sign or make a small picture. If you want, add some cookies or other baked good... I received a few of these notes through the years, and I have kept all of them.....the other stuff is long gone!
Reply:well my teacher likes homemade cards from students
Reply:Buy Christmas mugs at the dollar store and fill with Christmas candies place in festive goody bags you get at a party store add a pretty bow.Add extra candies and cookies in the bag.
Reply:i made christmas orderments with my kids the teachers loved them I got christmas cookie cutters and tree hooks for the orderments I went on the internet and found a dough for baking for it. I put the hook in the orderment before I baked it when they came out and cooled I let the kids paint and decorating them i put there names and date on back also used for the family
Reply:I always give Christmas ornaments and candles. Things for the classroom are a great idea.... teachers supply most if not all of the things in the class. Simply attach a card to whatever you decide to get them telling them how much you appreciate what they do.
Reply:christmas ornament from Hallmark

basket or tin of homemade cookies or candy

tea cup with different flavors of tea

Whitman sampler

Lotion for hands

candles

bath gels from Bath and Body works

A huge bottle of Germ-X, I cannot have enough of it.....in my classroom

note to one of the answers below.....I don't put my ornaments that were given to me in a shoe box, I put them on the tree.....cheesey? not the ones I received....
Reply:orientaltrading.com
Reply:Many teachers spend their own money on supplies they use in the classroom. As you know by buying supplies for your kids, they can add up. My suggestion would be to put together a small basket of assorted school supplies each teacher would likely use at school. They could be pencils, pens, glue sticks, crayons, post-it notes, etc. You can also include something a little more on the personal side such as a small picture frame. Use the frame for your holiday sentiment to make the basket special and personalized. This wouldn't cost much and the teachers would know you appreciate them and want to help make their jobs a little easier.
Reply:At some schools, a room mom or pta member gathers cash (about $10 apiece) from the participating families and buys gift cards (local mall) for the teacher. Otherwise, you could get a little GC (Target) for them, plants or Christmas ornament (if they celebrate Christmas).
Reply:picture frame, organizer, diaries, calendars
Reply:I would appreciate a hug more than any cheap gift you can buy!
Reply:candles, candle holders, home made jam put into pretty jars, bath salts, bath pearls, picture frames, pot pourri, flowers, chocolates, cupcakes, jewellery, keyrings, etc.
Reply:go and buy fruits and nuts in bulk at like Sam's Club or Costco- even wal mart. Also get a few bottles of sparkling apple cider, and maybe some chocolates. go to a crafts store- or wal mart and get baskets and cellophane and ribbon and make baskets with a little card inside or hanging from a ribbon. use your hair dryer to shrink the cellophane. you can make the baskets small or large.
Reply:A calender.
Reply:A nice travel mug %26amp; giftcard to a local coffee place. This will a nice treat for them to use in the cold months to come.
Reply:buy them school supplies for their classrooms (paper, ziplock freezer bags, markers, glue, etc) or books. I know a lot of teachers personally and they don't really like getting gifts for themselves. There are way too many and they end up getting thrown away. A lot of school districts require teachers buy supplies for their own classrooms, that can add up quite a bit in no time at all. They'll appreciate you helping them out.

If I cancelled an order online using a Visa Gift Card, will the pending authorization not go through?

I've recently used a Wal-Mart Visa Gift card on an online merchant and I cancelled the order within about 1 minute. I've check my "Pending Authorizations" and the order is still there. The site said that they did not charge the card. Will that order go away and give my money back? How long will the Pending Transaction last? Any help is appreciated.

If I cancelled an order online using a Visa Gift Card, will the pending authorization not go through?
A pending authorization could take 7 to 10 days to fall off. Call the merchant and ask them to cancel the authorization and that might speed up the process. good luck
Reply:It seems like the merchant didn't charge your card. Check with the gift card folks to get your credit balance by calling the number or going to the website on the back of the card.

Is there a store where I can buy a gift for someone to collect?

I have an internet buddy and I would dearly love to buy her a gift. I don't want to ask her for her home address because of the trust issues, I don't want her to feel pressured and also I'd really love for it to be a surprise. She lives in North Carolina, Lake Norman area, I think the town might be Gastonia? Is there a store that would let me purchase something for my friend but hold it for her to collect. It would be a real surprise so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks.

Is there a store where I can buy a gift for someone to collect?
I'd recommend an online gift card...to a store of your choice nationwide.

Lots of stores nationwide now offer that option..

And that way she can choose what she wants and just order it online.

You would need to read all the customer options at each particular online store to see if they have that or not.

as example, Macys, JC Penneys, American Eagle, Target, Fields etc etc
Reply:You can tell her a store online,a web,she can choose a gift she likes, then she tells you,so you can send the money, then the store send gift to her directly.

Good gift here

How much should I spend for a baby shower gift?

We are throwing a surprise baby shower for a high school friend. We all don't know the gender of the baby yet because the couple do not want to know in advance and want to be surprised when the baby comes. We all agreed to just get them a gift card so they can get what they really need. What is the acceptable price range nowadays?

How much should I spend for a baby shower gift?
Personally, I typically spend around $20 myself. Although, since I had my own child, I tend to do much more cuz I like helping out since I got so much and I'm very grateful for everything I received when I was pregnant. Or, you could also cut back a little on how much you spend now, and get another gift for after the baby is born when everyone knows if it's a boy or girl.
Reply:$20 would be the least I would give and $100 would be the most. You really can't go wrong with an amount if everyone is going to be giving gift cards. She will be able to use any amount you give.
Reply:Minimum $20. It depends on how good of a friend it is. If you feel that it isn't enough, buy a picture frame and put the gift card in the frame. You can NEVER have enough frames for pictures of your baby!
Reply:I usually give $50 per baby.
Reply:Anywhere from $20 on up, depending on what you can afford. You're not expected to break the bank over this.....after all, you are already throwing the shower, and have expenses for that as well.
Reply:we play it safe $25-$50

that will buy a nice present
Reply:Find out where she's registered and look at the average gift price. Not the little tiny stuff and not the big pricey stuff...just something in the middle. If you don't know where she's registered, ask.
Reply:I DUNNO I WOULD SAY ROUND 40-75 $ THATS COULD HELP THEM ALOT
Reply:Buy her some diapers!
Reply:$20.00 seems good to me because if a lot are contributing she'll have enough to go on a small spree...Think of it this way: You always need some bucks for when the baby comes home and this and that is needed to make things comfortable for the small family!
Reply:$20-or more. Depends on how much you would like to give.
Reply:It all depends on your budget and where u get the card from. Some places have a higher minimum than others. Try going to a store where u can see things that u might get and that can help u with the amount u can give them. But a reasonable amount can be as little as $25.
Reply:$50.- $100.
Reply:I say everyone give 20 bucks.
Reply:It really depends on the person. Each person has a different budget so i would just go with what you are comfortable with. I would say most spend about 20.00. However it also depends on how well and how close you are to that person. For example if it is for your sister you may tend to spend more but if it is for your friends sister then you may tend to spend less. If you and everyone who is attending the party are tring to decide on one price for the group you may want to do 20.00 each that way no one has spent more than the other and everyone stays happy.
Reply:$30-$50

What should I charge a customer to buy a gift basket?

I just started a gift basket business and I have my prices set already. Small - $10, Med-$15, Lrg-$20, but that is just for basket and decor, then I charge a different price for the themed items I put in the basket. Which is usually another $30 at least. Does that sound reasonable to you, because a few of my customers at first thought that was to much, they always want a $20 basket, but they don't realize when you add up the basket, decor, items, card, delivery, and taxes, that $20 is pretty unreasonable. Should I advertise it differently? I would appreciate any suggestions

What should I charge a customer to buy a gift basket?
Yes..advertise differently. You are confusing consumers by throwing too many $ amounts or surprising them with additional costs. If your customers are willing to buy stuff for $20....considers other gift ideas that you may provide as part of your inventory.

Use words like "Gift Baskets from $50" or disclaimers with "Additional fees not included"

Good luck

What is a good Christmas gift for 5year old girls?

My daughter is in kindergarden, and she has some little girl friends and i was wondering what is an inexpensive but cute gift for little girls? And, how do we give them out discretely as to not offend the kids not getting a gift?

What is a good Christmas gift for 5year old girls?
Girls at that age love the Disney Princesses. Even the 99 cents store usually carries little Disney Princess notebooks, bags, and pens etc. She should give them the gifts after class so as to curb the jealousy factor.
Reply:girls this age love lip glass, cheap bed necklaces, small craft projects (some of the foam ones cost a dollar!), anything princess, tiarras, coloring books,

could she hand them out before or after school or at lunch??
Reply:Disney Princess is always safe. I would not get anything like Dora and especially not Bratz (which I despise) unless you know the girl is into it.
Reply:Little Hannah Montana lip gloss sets. You can find them at Claires. $4.75

You can hand them out by giving them to the parents at a school Christmas play to give to their children at home. Or you can wait till after school or before school and give to parents while dropping kids off.

What gift would you buy for Salvador Dali?

In my art class at school we have to buy birthday gifts for an artist that our teacher assigned to us and explain why we chose these gift... What birthday gifts would you buy for Salvador Dali?

What gift would you buy for Salvador Dali?
Salvador Dali is a Surrealist painter, as you probably know. :) Have you seen many of his paintings or know something about him?

He's best known for his work "Persistence of Memory," the one with the melting clocks. :) The most common interpretation would be that these "melting clocks" deflate the permanence of time. http://www.thebestlinks.com/images/thumb...

How about recreating a melting clock? You could make this out of play dough by bending and molding the shape. You could even add food coloring to the ingredients to get accurate colors, too!

Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

1 cup water

1 tablespoon cooking oil

Instructions:

Mix the flour, salt, and water in a bowl. Add a small amount of oil (this keeps the dough from hardening).

Knead the play dough a little.

Store in an airtight container.

Add raisins, yarn, string, or black licorice for the hands and seconds!
Reply:A carrot.
Reply:I wouldn't take a clock. You cannot just give as a gift something he himself created. It would be like giving Leonardo da Vinci a reproduction of the monalisa. Salvador Dali was largely interested in science and he based many of his works on it. Something as simple as a book on physics or molecular biology would be great. You don't have to buy a book just make one yourself and make an interesting cover, he was obsessed with DNA. Or even a model of the DNA molecule would be a gift he would have enjoyed. Many of his works are based on this molecule

Other works are also based on quantum mechanics

Reply:A large melted watch to hang around his neck on a chain like a rapper. He was a surrealist.
Reply:The clock is to obvious. I'd buy him some fresh fish, an egg, an ant farm and a vial of michael jacksons blood, and a box of other knick knacks from the flea market. mostly because it's random and i'm sure he'd enjoy psychoanalyzing why i choose to give him those things
Reply:A new clock, as his old one was broken from the heat.

What are some good gift ideas to give to someone in South Korea you are going to meet on a business trip?

Someone suggested alcohol, like a bottle of wine, but I'd prefer not to have carry that over there since it could break. What are some ideas for gifts other than alcohol?

These should be things that are unique to the US, or at least uncommon in Korea. The gift shouldn't be too heavy or too expensive (maybe $10-20 at most). Food is probably ok (especially since it can be shared), but it can't be anything that customs would have a problem with.

Any ideas?

What are some good gift ideas to give to someone in South Korea you are going to meet on a business trip?
Not to sound like Forest Gump, but what about a nice box of chocolates (Godivas or See's)? They can be shared and the box/es are travel-friendly.
Reply:Reading the numerous responses already, they are well-thought of responses.

One point not mentioned, though, and it's a big point here in South Korea; this is true, especially if the gift receiver is senior to you in age. Although it's not spoken, the idea is conveyed to gift-givers that -

the expense of the gift bears a direct relation as to how sincere the gift-giver is.

In short - the more expensive, the more sincere.

The suggestion of Alcohol is the most common gift that is given, especially if it's imported from outside the country.

Believe it or not, Imported vs. domestic also bears a direct relation as to how sincere the gift-giver is.

In short - imported shows more sincerity from the gift-giver.

For example - Johnny Walker Blue Label, when it's available, can be purchased at the Camp Humphreys Class VI store for about $75.00.

Likewise, a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label, imported, could cost around 240 thousand Won in a Korean store (average $242.00).

But, a bottle of imported Wine could cost anywhere on the average of perhaps 70,000 Won for a bottle (average $71.00).

In short, which item shows more "sincerity" from the gift-giver?

Is the gift-receiver a male or female?

Honey was also a good response for gift-giving. But the downside is this; South Korea is still considered a male-dominent society, even though thoughts are slowly changing.

In a male-dominant society, the gift of imported Alcohol vs. a gift of Honey would definitely help your chances when gift-giving to a senior in age male.

When I asked my (Korean) wife, she informed me that a gift of Honey would be considered a female gift; don't give a senior male a female-related gift.

As for gifts of food; I don't suggest that. Simply put, avoid problems with Airport Customs on your way in.

Canned-type food; I don't suggest that either. Korean people is notoriously picky when eating foreign foods, not including imported meats.

Hopefully my knowledge will assist you for your business trip.
Reply:Big Blair gave you some great ideas.. honey goes a long way here. But try not to give that generic, supermarket honey.. It is more appreciated if it is a flavored, boutique-looking honey. Even better, ANY OF US over here would like to get a large container of maple syrup.. You can find it in decorative pouring tins in the grocery store. Koreans appreciate maple syrup and it is very expensive here.

Jelly is a good idea, but Koreans have their own, high-end and particular tastes with jellies, so the syrup or honey is a lot safer.

If you end up doing chocolates, do not go with Godiva or Toblerone as we can get those on any flight, duty-free and are common in the higher end groceries here. Go with something local to your area.

You didn't say where you are from.. Are you British? because a nice set of loose teas would be greatly appreciated, or anything in a Harrod's box.

Also, VERY popular here, a set of butters. If you are coming in the fall, you could find a small jar of pumpkin butter, apple butter, etc. Any of those are lovely on toast, which is also becoming very popular here. (Singapore Toast just opened their first few franchises in Seoul)
Reply:Alcohol is definitely the best gift, even for non-drinkers (re-gifting is not rude in Korea), but if that is a non-starter, believe it or not a big bottle of jelly or honey goes over very well. A large jar of Jelly might be hard to find in a plastic container, but you should be able to find a plastic container of honey, I think there are even a few shaped like a bear. As long as it is commercial honey (ie. you buy it in a grocery store), you shouldn't have a problem getting it through customs.

What are some of the social functions of gift exchange today?

What are some of the social functions of gift exchange today? I don't get this question at all help please!

What are some of the social functions of gift exchange today?
I think gift exchange reduces economic efficiency because you can't be sure that utility from gift will be big enough to cover gift's costs.
Reply:i'll try to answer from what ive learned at uni.

1. in economics, it's all about maximising our utility (satisfaction), rite? given a budget, people would refrain themselves from buyin luxury good because there are other goods that are more necessary in everyday life. giving gifts would allow the other party to be able to enjoy luxury goods without guilt.

2. in this world of assymetric information we need ways to signal. giving gifts portray to the other party that we care about them.

3. giving gifts makes u feel good about yourself. again, this is the question of maximising your utility. it's almost similar to giving food stamp vs giving money case study (you can find out more about this, it's popular case study).

4. economists would say that the best gift is money. asymmetric information would lead us to give something that are not the "best" thing that satisfy the other party. if u give cash, than they can do whatever they want with it i.e to maximise utility given a budget. but then, remember point (1).

that's all i can think of. the points might be overlapping here and there but hopefully u can construct a good answer using all these points ;p

A question for men

What is a good gift to get for an office party?

I need to think of a good gift to bring to my office party. We each have a limit of $20 and it's a "steal a gift" exchange. I would like to bring something that everyone will want to steal! It's a group of mostly women with 2 or 3 men. Thanks!

What is a good gift to get for an office party?
Oooh, the dreaded office gift exchange!

The trick is to pick something fun and special, without being so specific that no one is interested in the gift. Start with a “basic”, and then add a few twists with clever packaging.

Basics

Movie passes

Movie rental card

Scratch tickets

Starbucks card

Pound of really good coffee

Itunes gift card

Mag light (That light that you shake and never needs batteries.)

Gift card from Old Navy, bookstore, coffee shop, popular store.

(Try to pick a store that has extra “perks” with the card, one time I got an Old Navy card that said that if it was used in the week after Christmas buys also got a chance to win extra money to spend. )

Beautiful cake from a nearby bakery. (We did an Italian cream cake… was very popular)

Variety box of funky/fun greeting cards

Theme gifts - take a basic, and make it fun by bundling it with some inexpensive related items.

Old fashioned fun box:

Wind up toys, Matchbox cars, “Parachute men”, slingshot, Super bounce ball, Suction bouncy toys, Silly putty….

Movie night:

Popcorn, candy, bowl, Movie rental card

Gourmet Java Jolt:

Coffee, Flavored syrup, and “Frother” (it is an inexpensive “whipper” to create foam, last one I bought was $7 bucks)

Summer fun:

Snorkle and fin set

Inside Joke:

Box of Diet Caffeine-free Dr. pepper. One of the girls in our office was crazy for it, so someone found 2 big packs of it, and wrapped it up for the swap. When it was wrapped it looked huge – after it was opened, everyone knew who it was for. But of course, she had something they wanted.. and so the negotiating began!

Maybe someone in your office has a quirky habit or interest that you can play off of!

Ideas for success:

Wrap the gift!

- Use an oversized box, people tend to go for the big boxes first

- Be creative. Wrap the present in a mysterious/fun way. Egg Carton (who would pick a "dozen eggs") ? Coffee can? Brown paper bag with a rubber band? Box from something else.

-Wrap smaller items (scratch tickets, gift cards etc.) in a larger box or with a larger item. For example:

-- a CD Case

-- Box of Candy canes (Protect the tickets in a plastic bag and tape to front of box). Looks like candy canes as they unwrap, until they see the tickets on the front.

-- Inside a pickle jar (I have a friend that does this one a lot... and it gets a good response, go figure!)

-- Use an Altoids tin for gift cards. If you are crafty, you can "remake" the tin into a one-of-a-kind box.

"Break the rules"

- Bring an extra ‘White Elephant” gift, wrap it, and put it in the middle of the pile. Something crazy, ugly, laughable, and totally different…. (Whoever gets that one, can always pick again after the joking is done.) You never know, someone might actually want it!

-- Dog chewed shoe

-- Old child-size portable record player (was fought over.)

-- Look around, you probably have something that will work...

Have fun with it!

Things to avoid (unless you really, really, know that people in the office will like it.)

- Obvious "gift with purchase items"

- Practical joke items

- Dreaded holiday Combo packages.

- Edible underwear, or other adult items that might just go "oh so wrong"

- Gourmet Hot cocoa set with a mug

- Scented candles (if it was all women maybe....)
Reply:a set of movie gift cerificates
Reply:Best Buy gift card if looking for a unisex gift card. As for an actual item, I'd say a gift basket of some sort. I think it's more fun to get a lot of little things than one big thing. So you could do a gift basket with crackers, cheeses, and meats (pepperidge farm has tons of them pre made), or even like someone else said, do a gift basket with diff. kinds of chocolates and sweets.
Reply:A big box of chocolates. Nice candles. Unisex but appealing. Gift cards are always popular too (coffee shop, target, movies).
Reply:Cross-dresser Barbie (Ken wearing one of Barbie's outfits)
Reply:Basket of toiletries/bath items. I always love those. You can spend whatever you like on that, and some very nice ones can be had for under $20.
Reply:One of those single cup coffee makers. I think that I got one a couple of years ago for like $10 - $15 %26amp; everyone wanted it at my office party. Another idea is a movie night basket. Get an inexpensive popcorn bowl, a pack or two of microwave popcorn, a $5 - $10 Blockbuster gift card %26amp; a some movie theater type candy (maybe 1-2 boxes). Wrap it up in some clear paper with a bow.

Whatever you choose, don't do fondue! Oh my gosh, that's what I ended up with (a fondue set) at the office "steal a gift exchange". I was so upset %26amp; my kids didn't even want it!
Reply:maybe a coffee mug ,some flavored coffees, and maybe a box of chocalates..????
Reply:beer
Reply:travel mugs....a all in one tool or tool kit.....or a great one A GAS CARD!!!!!
Reply:Crockpots, Quesadilla makers, blenders, Wal-Mart gift cards!
Reply:being that you don't know who's it for complicates , flowers can be good or plants alcohol can be given if your group, drinks that would be you knowing the group wouldn't want to lose a fellow worker though.
Reply:For $20.00 - you could buy some really special, elegant Christmas ornaments - wrap them in a beautiful box - and people will want to steal this. (I did this last year at my party)

A gift card is always nice.

How about getting a really pretty gift box and just wrapping a brand new $20.00 bill? I bet everyone would laugh and really want to steal that.
Reply:pick something that is not gender specific to be fair. how about a starbucks gift certificate?

What can I do with all these beautiful gift bags?

I got so many beautiful gift bags at my baby shower. I really want to use them to decorate my baby girls room, problem is I have no idea how to use them. Any ideas?

What can I do with all these beautiful gift bags?
If you don't mind cutting the gift bags up, you could cut squares out of each gift bag and make a collage to hang on the wall. You could write the name of the person that gave you the gift and what gift they gave you on the back of each piece of bag. Frame it in a nice frame and hang it in your baby's room. It will be a cute decoration, and you will always be able to look back at how many thoughtful gifts you got for your little girl. Good luck!
Reply:use them for gifts or throw them away .
Reply:You could flatten them and make a collage and put them all on a bulletin board maybe ?
Reply:a cute keepsake would be to cut the fronts off of them and glue them together to make kind of a quilt. you could also have it framed, if you wanted to.
Reply:You could also make a little mobile out of them. Use fishing line or clear thread to hang them from something. Then, when baby grows older, make them into a collage as the other posters suggested.

Another idea is to attach little paper butterfly wings or flower petals to some of the tags (just use construction paper in the colours of your daughter's room, cutting through several sheets at once). The tag can become the center of the flower or butterfly, and you can hand them from the ceiling with thread or fishing line.

Just make sure that the baby can't reach them!

If I gift money for closing costs on a house, is it tax deductible?

I live in Nebraska, my daughter lives in California and is purchasing a house. She has asked me to help with closing costs and the money will be contributed as a gift. Can I deduct this on my taxes?

Thank you.

If I gift money for closing costs on a house, is it tax deductible?
Gift money may or may not be taxable depending on the size of the gift. $12,000 is the tax exclusion amount so giving more than that amount may lead to tax consequencies. Remember the amount is $12,000 per person that is giving her that money. if you are married, you and your husband can separately give $12,000 to your daughter.

Gifts are not deductable on your taxes. You're thinking of charitable donations to salvation army or goodwill.
Reply:No, you may not. Gifts to relatives are never a tax deductible expense. Furthermore, your daughter can't deduct it either, since closing costs are not a home ownership deductible expense.
Reply:"GIFT" is the operative word here.
Reply:No... Regardless of the deductibility of house buying... Maybe in respect to proportioned property tax... Your daughter made the pruchase. If there are any deductions to take, they would be hers.

On top of that, if you gifted her more than $12,000 you may have gift tax ramifications.

Oh yeah. Go Huskers!

By doing that, your folks will see that you are acting in a mature manner, and will probably give you more privileges, so it can be a win/win scenario!

Reply:Why not do a collage of all the family, starting from her being a baby and going through her life ill the present day. You could do a picture framed one for her to hang up or do a book so she can carry on her life story then pass it down the family so each generation can read about the last. I am starting to do this for my nephew, he is only 6 and i would like to give it to him for his 18th birthday. Its a timeless present and is totally unique and you never know it could start a new hobby for her to upkeep. Happy hunting
Reply:I would get a wood frame from walmart of somewhere.

Put a pic of you two.

Paint it, maybe put a cute quote that she has said or a mothers quote.
Reply:take her to lunch or something and tell her how much you love her. give her a really nice card and write a good loving message on it that she can save for her old age. they keep stuff like that. make a good memory. if she won't tell you what she wants, she doesn't need anything that you can afford. unwanted gifts are a little annoying.
Reply:the best gift is to spend the time with you mom. The way how you spend time together depends on your age. Ypu can buy two tickets (for her and for you) for a movie, concert, etc. You can pay membership subscription for wellnes center for year for two of you, or just for airobics for the next moth (if your short on money) but for the two of you. Give her something that will garantee your spending time togetheer for the next year or month at least, two times a week.
Reply:I know this sounds lame, but it's got to be something that is dear to her heart. Think of any interest or hobbies she may have and go with it! Maybe even having a picture of a special moment or a special person past or present framed for her.

How do people manage to stay cheerful and optimistic all day? Is it an innate gift?

I am one of these people who finds that bouncing back to being happy and cheerful after a scolding or a bad situation more productive than being sulky and grouchy.

I do not understand why people just can't move on? Why do they have to throw a tantrum? Are there any scientific results proven of such a 'condition' or is it a gift God had bestowed upon us?

How do people manage to stay cheerful and optimistic all day? Is it an innate gift?
The older I get the more content I am with my life. Everything is Mind, EVERYTHING is Psychological. If you understand this statement, you'll learn to be happy too. If you concentrate on the negative things in life, you'll attract negativity to yourself. The opposite is also true.

The gift that you're inquiring about is called "common sense". Everyone has it (to some degree) but most don't know how to use it to our advantage.

Yes it's childish to throw tantrums when things don't go your way. By the same token, children can find joy in building sand castles or just playing in dirt. When we become adult(like) we tend to forget how much fun life can be because we only notice what we don't have. Think about this:

We come into this world with NOTHING and we leave with nothing. EVERYTHING in between is ours.
Reply:Great question. Can't wait to hear the answers on this one. I am one of those people that can't things go. I know its bad for me and only makes me stressful, but I would love to change.
Reply:As we grow, we are conditioning ourselves. For some its a way of getting attention, for what ever reason. Maybe its a way to keep from thinking about the things in their own life that could/would make them happy, but then are to afraid of getting hurt or disappointed (again), which in turn makes them angry, sad or ?. Wow, look at that, were right back where we started. Get out and socialize with someone new, even if its at the post office, a simple comment about the junk mail. Its time to find the more positive place of mind.
Reply:It depends on the individual. If they think the world revolves around them, they will waste an awful lot of energy blaming everyone else for their woes. As we mature, hopefully, we come to see the futility in it all. If a person or situation upsets me, I need to look at myself and my attitude. It's better to test ones perceptions than to treat assumptions as fact. I don't know if there is any physiological or spiritual cause and effect, all I know is that some people are willing to live and let live and some aren't. I guess they never learned about the Golden Rule. What a shame.
Reply:Well it takes a lot of work if your not raise that way to brush stuff off it's the focus of the event the fact that one human must relive that experance over and over and over so they can feel that emotion again and again!

Sence they never really are happy with them self they don't feel the joy, happiness, and the good stuff! so they will take what ever emotion they can to feel alive! sad i use to do this!

I use to hate everything and bla bla bla! but when you let it brush off WOW YOU FEEL FREE! and more alive then ever!

oh i notice most people who feel this way are also selfish they feel that eveyone thinks like them there for when someone says somethign they could take it the wrong way because they wouldn't say that because they think it is mean! one way thougth pattern and not everyone thinks like they do but they dont' see that! so yeah if i didn't lose you on that last part!

rock on!

How much should I spend on birthday party gift?

Is there a good rule of thumb to know who much to spend on a children's birthday party gift? I don't want to seem cheap but I also don't want to spend too much either. Specifically, I have young kids and we are now going to a lot of parties for his class mates. We live in an area with mixed income levels and we are about in the middle.

How much should I spend on birthday party gift?
I have thought about purchasing a whole bunch of books (from the Scholastic flyers the kids bring home from school) and saving them for this purpose...books are always a good gift, but can be pricey--there are some pretty good deals on the flyers...

Can't my kid's presence be enough?...sigh...LOL!
Reply:Have your child's teacher conceal the items...or you can get one book for your child and tell them the others are for their friends' birthdays. U could even allow them pick which one they want to give, too :) Report It

Reply:I wouldn't worry about the dollar amount. We were just invited to a child's birthday party and I made some dress-up headbands for her. They were really pretty with satin-type fabric and ribbons down the back and everything. All in all it cost me maybe $2 to make them but I think it was a fine present. Obviously you can't use that idea since you have a son but you might want to go to a birthday party or two and just look and see what types of presents people bring.

Reply:Every time I go shopping with my kids or alone, I try to get 1 or 2 gift cards of $10, $15 %26amp; $25 dollars. It could be from wal mart, sears, or from a record store. It is unexpensive and the kids get to choose what they want at that range price. When my kids get invited to a party I send the gift card. Or sometimes I go to a wholesale store like Sam's, Price costco. They have nice toys for girls and boys, at a very good price! $15, $20 dollars. I usually buy them for next time partys. Good Luck.
Reply:I usually spend between $20-25.
Reply:We have a big family and my children have alot of friends and therefore we attend alot of birthday parties. Here is how I see it, if they are your family I like to talk to their parents and see what they are wanting with a price range between 30.00-40.00,( They do the same in return to my children ) Now if they are just friends then I think a gift between 15.00-20.00 is about the right price!!
Reply:I try to keep it at $10 per gift. Otherwise, depending on how many parties your kids are invited to, you could go bankrupt! I also try to get something that involves them (like a book, game or craft). Otherwise, they have something they look at for 10 minutes and get bored with.
Reply:It's not how much it costs, but the thought put into it, utility, and fun! Unique stationery for kids who love to write, and draw; you can even do toys and stuff... or better still, look for great deals online before hand, and keep them wrapped and ready to go for last minute birthday invites.

GoodLuck!
Reply:Why be concerned about a price?

All that really matters is that the gift is given with love.
Reply:I would say about $10-$15 for classmates and a little more for friends the kids play with more often.
Reply:I have 6 year old twins and when they go to parties i usually spend between $15-20 for a gift!! kids arent cheap now adays!! good luck! Just to let ya know, kids love gift cards too...for walmart, kmart or video stores, they love picking out what they really want and it will save you time!!
Reply:I would only spend about $20. I also am going to a lot of parties w/ my kids and it gets expensive. Also, it depends on who it is. Their best friends who come over a lot I'll spend about 20-25 on. But, kids who I don't even know and invited the entire class....10 bucks is plenty!
Reply:For someone your child knows really well and plays with a lot, I would say 15-20 dollar. Considering they would do the same.

For someone who invites kids just to get more presents I would do a 10 dollar gift.

What amount of money is appropriate to give for a wedding gift?

My boss is having her wedding soon and I felt bad to decline because I was not going to attend her bridal shower. She didn't register because apparently its Chinese tradition to give money instead of gifts. I think anything less than $100 is inappropriate and rude for a wedding gift, but I feel $100 or more is too much for someone who I only work with. Any advice?

What amount of money is appropriate to give for a wedding gift?
According to the etiquette books, what you can afford is all that's neccessary for the gift of money. That and a nice card will suffice.
Reply:Money in amounts of 8 is good $88 and in a red envolope. It is a little less then a $100 and it will be right in with the Chinese tradition.
Reply:Money weddings are the easiest to handle for me, as I'm use to them, my husband is Italian and that's what they do.

Take your cheque book with you and buy a card, then when you see what your meal is calculate what it costs for the meal and write the cheque to cover the cost of the meal and a token amount on top to help the couple get started in their new life.

As it's a boss and not a friend the token amount does not need to be much just make sure you give at least enough to cover the meal, slip it in the card and on your way to the washroom slip the card in the gift box.
Reply:For close friends and family give $50 to $100.

For bosses, give no more than $20. Why,? because bosses should not expect employees to give too much. Bosses are the ones with money, employees are the ones who are on tight budgets. That's the rationale.
Reply:If she feels that $100 is not enough, then she is absolutely ungrateful. I just got married in March and anyone who gave me a gift of any amount was truely appreciated....including those who just sent a card!!!
Reply:I see your dilemma. I'd go with what the first answerer suggested.
Reply:Give her a card Inviting her out to dinner after she settles in.
Reply:Send a card with a nice, heartfelt message in it as well as 100 dollars.
Reply:Do you know your boss as a friend? If so, you should give what you can comfortably afford. If not, the invitation may just be a ploy to get more gifts,so, why would you want to attend? Save your money and your spare time on people you really care about-and who care about you.

No respected etiquette adviser says that a gift is mandatory-let alone a gift of $100 or more! According to Miss Manners (aka Judith Martin) the only occasions where a gift is mandatory are showers (wedding or baby) and birthday parties for children under 16, where opening the gifts is part of the entertainment.

But, people do expect something at a wedding; if you go, give an amount that is comfortable for you. Unfortunately, your boss knows how much you earn; but unless she is a good friend, she doesn't know all of your expenses.

In short: a good friend won't care if you can't go all out; if the reason you're there is to sweeten the pot, I don't see why you'd want to go at all.

If I have a gift card and the place closed. How came I get my gift card reimbursed?

The place is NV Salon %26amp; Spa in Houston, in case any one has information. I would like to get reimbursed b/c a) services weren't rendered that would be free money to them, b) go get use of a spa somewhere else and/or c) give the money back to the person who gave the gift card. That is money wasted for them and me.

If I have a gift card and the place closed. How came I get my gift card reimbursed?
Nope. All the major venders and such would be the first to be paid off if any money is left. Gift card holders would be the last on the list and by that time all the money, if any, would be gone.

What is an appropriate gift for a college dude's graduation?

I will be attending graduation at Western KY University on Friday and Saturday. One dude is a graduate, and the other one is an undergraduate--they will probably both end up playing pro basketball, either here in the states or overseas. What is a nice and appropriate and affordable gift to give them--money seeems so unappealing to me as a gift. 10 points for the best answer in four hours!

What is an appropriate gift for a college dude's graduation?
Well, money always works really...but if they're going to the NBA, they probably won't need it...*L*...

Depends on what they like...Could always get them some music CD of some group they like...More formal would be I dunno...A tie, some formal wear-a shirt or something.
Reply:I know that you say money is not appealing to you, but I can tell you as someone who graduates in four days, money is THE best thing we can all hope to receive. Whether we are starting graduate school or moving on to bigger and better things, it all costs money and college isn't really the time to save...we have loans, debts, and very small bank accounts. I know that all my friends and I are looking forward to graduation for the checks....which sounds terrible but hey...graduation is a time for presents.
Reply:What do these young men like to collect? that is an idea.

you could buy them a t-shirt and have a special message written to them. but do two of each saying( choice of words) so they have one to wear time to time and another to put in keep sake box.

gift cards work too.

buy them a basketball so they can pratice at a local park with basketball net.
Reply:Well, since they have to shower after games and practices, a nice toiletry bag would be a nice gesture. They would definitively use it, so a gift like that has lots of utility.
Reply:you could give them a gift card to their favorite restaurant. you also can get them an ipod for their entertainment. I would give them a card with a a gift card inside for their favorite store.
Reply:Sports store gift certicate.,, or something from sport store they can return if want too. Guys arent into gooey gifts and since into sports they can relate to this. *mamatx
Reply:i think a job would be the best gift.

i would probably give them a nice going away dinner.
Reply:My new favorite gift is itune cards and Netflix subscriptions.
Reply:the love you show them is a good start, maybe a night on the town limo, dinner, dancing
Reply:How about a team ball cap for their favorite N-B-A teams? Throw in a pen set, some hankies, and a nice card.
Reply:penis pump dudes love them. especially because they will have to live up to all the expectations people have for Bball playas and their... ya know...junk.... in the trunk

What is a good gift for a client from a realtor?

Hello All,

I am a new realtor and i have a closing tomorrow. I would like to get my client a gift when i meet them at closing. What would be a good inexpensive gift i can get for them?

What is a good gift for a client from a realtor?
A discount. Nothing says I love you more than money back.
Reply:A plant
Reply:give something that will be around. So that when they see it they remember you and when they want to move, they will call you again and again and again.

I like the picture idea.
Reply:When I bought my home the Realtor gave me a basket with 2 mugs, coffee, hot chocolate and some cookies. I thought it was nice. You can pick up a gift basket at a place like Marshalls or any coffee or gift shop. Quick, easy, painless and it makes it look like you tried to personalize it a bit. (I've always found gift cards to be in-personal)
Reply:Our realtor gave us a beautiful picture to hang on the wall. It was a nice landscape with a gorgeous frame.
Reply:A basket with home related items in it. Basic cooking, gardening stuff. Include a Home Depot gift card as well.
Reply:Gift card to Home Depot

Gift card to a nursury (for outdoor plant)

Picture frame

Basket with dinner fixins (spaghetti, sauce, bread..etc)

two really nice key chains.

We bought our home almost nine years ago. Our realtor gave us a fruit basket and when we had our son she sent flowers.

Every month she sends a postcard with recipes on it and at Thanksgiving she calls and orders a pie for us.

That is a LOT of work to put into a couple that bought one home from you..but...I would work with no one but her! I refer her to EVERYONE I meet who needs a realtor and will deal with her alone when we sell this house.
Reply:www.rentpaidnow.com

you'll never know when they need it
Reply:-A gift certificate to a restaurant near the home (when I moved, I couldn’t cook for about a month!)

-A gift card to Lowe’s

-A bottle of champagne %26amp; two glasses so they can celebrate
Reply:I like to give a plaque with the purchaser's family name, names of everybody in the immed family, a nice picture and some type of poem or other writtens words as appropriate. They cost about thirty dollars including shipping. They come with a very nice wood frame and a matte. You get to choose which frame, which picture, which poem and which matte.

Evertime they see it they will remember wear it came from.

I use a company from the web. I do not have thir name off the top of my head, but I can get it. If you would like to know more send me a email
Reply:a broom, mop, bucket, dust pan and brush, sponges, and cleaner. tie the bucket handle to the broom and mop with a pretty ribbon. on the card tell them that you thank them for being a client. then in small letters tell them that every one needs these. now if it is someone who has a lot of money then give them unscented candles.
Reply:My realtor has always given me a bunch of flowers with a personalized card ........... needless to say I aways use the same one.
Reply:maybe a nice bottle of wine (if you're pretty sure they drink) or perhaps some other type of nice house warming gift. just do a little research. take into consideration their age and lifestyle!
Reply:a gift card not much probably around $75. dollars for a store like home depot. some where were they could use it for the new home.

What should I get as a wedding gift to a couple moving to the UK?

A friend of mine is getting married within the month, and after the marriage, she and her husband will be moving to the UK. So any wedding gift I get will have to be small. I was thinking of a gift certificate, but I don't know any stores in the UK. Do you have any ideas for a gift certificate I could get that would be useful for a new couple moving to the UK? I would also probably have to buy it online, and I don't know exactly to what city they're moving to, so it would have to be a national chain.

What should I get as a wedding gift to a couple moving to the UK?
Some of the national chainstores here in the UK are

Debenhams, Argos, BHS, Boots, Marks %26amp; Spencer, John Lewis and House of Fraser. I think they all probably have websites. Personally I'd go for Argos who have stores in most cities here, and they are excellent for people who are setting up a home as they sell all sorts and are reasonably priced.
Reply:what is UK ??? if you asked i do not know
Reply:Maybe something small personalized, that way they will remember you while in the UK :)
