My TKD Grandmaster, who has been a teacher and mentor to me since I was very young, will be retiring in two weeks to do Christian Missionary work in North Korea. I was trying to get some ideas for a gift for him.
What is a good retirement gift for retiring Grandmaster?
Something symbolic, like one of his belts in a large frame with signatures and/or photos of his students. If possible, try to contact other black belts that he has promoted over the years and have them contribute.
Another idea is to put together a video with highlights of his classes and/or competitions. You can have students contribute commentary to the video.
Good luck!
Reply:i'm not 100% sure exactly what your asking but i'll have a stab at it anyway.since you say he's been a mentor since you were very young maybe a mementoe of your relationship would be better suited than a gift?you would probably have more of an idea what that could be than anyone else.i havn't helped have i?i just made it harder,maybe?any way thats my opinion of it from the point of view of a dai sensei who has many students for a long time.
PSDO NOT BORROW?SOMETHING FROM THE DOJO AND HAVE IT PLATED I THINK YOU"LL FIND THAT WILL OFFEND HIM%26gt;
Reply:numb chucks
Reply:get him some north korean prostitutes so he can have a taste of the orgies that five cents american money will get him over there.
Reply:The Karate Kid trilogy on DVD.
Reply:Get him a best buy gift card for a stocking stuffer...maybe a nice tie, or some assorted choclates.
Reply:I like Kungfufighter and Ray H's ideas. I was thinking you could also buy him a stool/small bench made of a high quality wood or wicker. Something not too tall...knee height.
But a watch, a framed belt, and or a picture of all his students are all hot ideas too. Maybe get him all 3? Tha tmight be pushing it but bottom line; dig into your wallet.
Mentor's are few and far between. We should feel blessed to have one in our life, as some people go through life never even having that. Definitely drop at least half a g for a gift.
Reply:Try writing him a letter or card that conveys your feelings about him and thanks him for being your teacher and friend all these years . It may sound corny but its a nice touch . A gold retirement watch would be nice also .
