What is the appropriate amount of money to spend on a wedding gift?

I'm a bridesmaid in the wedding of a close friend. I'm already spending a fair amount of money on the event ($500 plane ticket, $350 hotel, $40 engagement gift, $60 shoes). The bride genersouly paid for all the bridesmaid dresses.





Also, if it's relevant, I'm a student and my annual income is $17,500. How much should I spend on the gift?

As much as you feel like giving %26amp; can afford %26amp; if the bride %26amp; groom have any class they will be delighted %26amp; grateful for whatever they receive. There is no set amount that's proper %26amp; it would be completely crass for anyone to feel a gift was not enough.

Therefore, do not feel obligated to spend more than you can afford on the present. If you do not want to buy an item off her registry (one that is in your budget), then consider an item that would be personal.


They are probably going to have a honeymoon right? Take lots of pictures? Buy a nice scrapbook, and pre-fill out the pages with various stickers, pre-cut papers, decorations, etc. that are traveled themed. You could even label some of the pages with fancy writing (or letter stickers if you are not that artistic) like our favorite restaurant, our favorite day together, etc.


You can get these items at any craft or scrapbook store, and she probably would be so touched by the gift because it Will be unique and personally made with love from you. THAT FAR OUT WEIGHS ANY STORE BOUGHT GIFT! Good luck, and have fun at her wedding :)
