What is a good gift for a woman very close to me who just had open heart surgery?

A very special person to me just had to have open heart surgery. She was my teacher a few years ago where my mom works and she has been almost like a second mother to me. She has done so much for me and I am thinking about getting her a gift. I got her a card but I am thinking I might want to get her something else.

What should I get her? I really don't want to get her chocolate, flowers, ballons, because she will probably get these things from everyone. At the same time I don't want it to be really extravagant. Just a meaningful little present to let her know I am thinking of her.

What is a good gift for a woman very close to me who just had open heart surgery?
OH DOOD! i just remembered this episode on martha steward's show (i was bored), and she had a guest online that sells HEART CAKES online. yup. heart cakes

i don't have any experience with those links so idk how good they are. but if you can, try to design like medical stuff ontop with frosting like maybe a crack (broken heart) or scapels, etc..

that would be quite cool.
Reply:Hi, try here, choose a lucky charm for her, will bless her get over the surgery.
Reply:well ifs shes like ur mom, u shud no her dislikes an hobbies, so if she likes to draw, give her some paint an paper, or maybe some embriodery tools, orsimply a big big hug, but maybe u shud get her a ballooon (yea ik u dont want to) but get her a balloon thats a big red heart , since it kinda goes wit the whole heart srugery thing,
Reply:a silver pendant or bracelet engraved with words that are meaningful to the two of you. Even something like :I'm there for you" or Friends forever" would be nice and not terribly expensive. Her favorite perfume, or dusting powder.

What is a good gift to get a cross country runner?

My brother is really into cross country running. What's a good gift to get him? Something winter related might be good. He's had friends that were coughing up blood (!!!) after running in the Chicago winters. Anyone know of any good brands of face masks, etc? Or just anything else a cross country runner might need/enjoy...

What is a good gift to get a cross country runner?
A cross country runner should have Sports Slick, Body Glide, a Garmin 301 Forerunner, dry wicking clothes, compression shorts, a running beanie and gloves, Cytomax, Gu and a gift certificate to a GOOD running store. (Not Footlocker, but a SPECIALTY running store where they sell shoes on fit, needs of a runner - stability, pronation, etc., not on trend.) Don't buy cotton shirts to run in - they feel like sandpaper after about 12 miles and can cut and chafe, believe it or not. The runner's journal which is a desk calendar/datebook is also a good gift. I've personally just had so much Gu at my last marathon, I get nauseous looking at the package, but it is a necessary evil. A subscription to Runners World magazine might also be good.
Reply:sneakers :)
Reply:The Garmin Forerunner is on my Christmas list, if you want to spend that much. If you look around for the best deal on the internet, I think you can get one for about $250-$275. List price is about $350.
Reply:Find out what running magazine subscriptions he has and get hi one that he dosnt have or would like, also if he keeps his running up durring the winter time a head cover would be good, and or a new set of running cloths, you can find this stuff out at on line running links and or at any big 5 and or G I JOes
Reply:Garmin 301 Forerunner
Reply:running shoes and a scarf
Reply:Get him a gift certificate to a store that sells Cross Country supplies (like a sporting goods store or something like that). That way he can get whatever he wants. He knows best what would be the best thing for him to buy. If you buy him something I'm sure he'll love it (because its from you) but it might not be exactly what he wanted. :o) Good luck!
Reply:Gethim a sweet track suit and hot runners!
Reply:Chicago is really cold today. I live in Chicago then I know what are you talking about :) .I love the winter, snow, wind but I always running with my windstopper pants and windstopper shirt, gloves and hat are made with windstopper too. You can find good running stuff in roadrunnersports.com but basically the important thing is to stop the wind, specially in Chicago. I recommend you a nice windstopper shirt. I love it. The brand is Mountain Hardwear and fit perfect the name is Mountain Hardwear Transition Featherweight Zip. It is around $80, windstopper Tights or pants around $40-$65 which is really good price. Face mask humm I don't like but if he likes face mask you can find some goods in sierratradingpost.com windstopper or polartec windbloc fabrics are the best no more that $30. Just remember anything that you buy have to be breathable and windproof. Brands...Manzella, Mountain Hardwear, Road Runner, nike has some good gloves, hind.

good luck.
Reply:I ran cross-country for six years in high school and middle school. Running gloves are a nice thing to have. He'll need them if he plans on training outdoors over the winter. He might also need them during the season next fall, towards the end when it's cold during races. Good brands for face masks are asics, Brooks, UnderArmour, Nike, and Pearl Izumi. If you go to a running specialty store, they should have a good selection of these brands and cold weather running gear. I'm still an avid runner and last year my wife got me these awesome nike running shorts--bright green (in memory of Prefontaine from Oregon) You can find them on the nikestore website. They're not those short shorts they make you wear in the races--it's a good mix between a basketball short and a running short.
Reply:A quality pedometer.
Reply:running shoes! :]

What is the crappiest gift exchange gift you have received?

We had a white elephant exchange yesterday at work... in the form of an ornament exchange. I went out of my way to find a beautiful ornament, plus I purchased a gift-card for Starbucks and on top of all of this, I wrapped my gift elaborately topped with a beautiful bow. I ended up receiving a re-gifted looking wiener dog, dressed like a hippie... NOT EVEN AN ORNAMENT FROM THE 99CENT STORE... what upsets me is that this is not the first time I get stuck with a crappy gift... ! What sucks even more is the person who gave the crappy gift, ended up with a beautiful ornament... uggh I cant stand people who participate in gift exchanges and give crappy thoughtless gifts~!

What is the crappiest gift exchange gift you have received?
You could re-gift that creepy, tacky wiener dog at the same white elephant exchange next year. Hopefully karma would work and "what goes around, comes around" will occur and your crummy co-worker will end up with his little friend again.

Or

You can take the high road (which I know is what you will do- I bet you are a classy, kind %26amp; considerate lady -I just know you are!) and give that hippy dog to Goodwill and forgive %26amp; forget the whole thing. Remember, someone is spending $15.99 to pay full price for that ugly dog... just be glad you have better taste!

As for myself, I was the unfortunate recipient of 1/2 a bag of hard candy one year.Yes- 1/2 a bag- not even a full one. I was 12 years old and my dad had married a lovely woman with two daughters about 6 months prior. My stepmom's mother lived in Delaware and mailed a huge Christmas package to the family. Her granddaughters (my cute step sisters) received tons of toys, clothes and books. My Dad and stepmom reecieved tons of gifts also. And there in the box with my name misspelled on the tag was a bag of hard "old lady" kind of candy. It had been opened already and was half full. The bag had been stapled shut again. And that was my gift. I think it would have been better to have had nothing, at least I would think she had forgotten me. But to put that in the box was really hateful.

Given the fact I was only 12 I think I handled it quite well. I smiled nicely and ooo-ed and aahh-ed over their gifts from her . Then I went into the bathroom and had a good cry.

And I was even made to write a Thank You note to her for it! JI hate hard candy now... I wonder why.

Merry Christmas Sweetie- I would give you a beautiful, glimmering ornament straight from heaven if I could.
Reply:One time I got a box filled with deodorant, band-aids, soap, and Preparation H! Yuck! Someone must have been aiming for the smelly person.
Reply:A toaster .. yuck
Reply:you are completely right!

Its not fair for the people like you who put alot of time and not to metion money into finding a acceptable gift for anyone who recieves it. Some people just grab the first thing they see out of there closet in hope to get rid of it! The worst thing i've ever gotten in a gift exchange?

i'd have to say it was a pair of rusted earings, i mean they were actually rustung. But dont let your horrible gift bring you down, i mean theres karma right?

so enjoy the holiday season despite the ungreatful souls that are spread among us

Happy holiday

Reply:I did up a (IMO) really thoughtfull gift basket for my sister-in-law 2 years ago. It had really expensive teas and a tea set and honey and candy from World Market in it. It was absolutely gorgeous! I must have spent $150 on the whole thing but I thought it was worth it since it was something I knew she would truly like.

Christmas morning we open our gifts and she gets her gift basket and thanks me. Then it's my turn. I open my gift and she's wrapped up a manicure set that she probably got for free when she opened up a bank account at Washington Mutual. And then, to top it off, she points out that it's deemed safe to take on airplanes. Which was EFFING HILARIOUS (not then, but in hindsight and sort of allowing myself some bitterness) because I'm a known NON-flyer. I do NOT do planes. No exceptions. And it's a KNOWN thing. We always joke about how I don't have my passport, blah, blah, blah... Anyway, so I thought that was it for crappy gifts in 2004, but then to add insult to injury, I open another present from her and it's a potholder. And not like a Williams Sonoma potholder or anything. It's a potholder she made...ON A LOOM! Like the kind with the 57 billion different little nylon bands that you play with when you're a kid. I was really hurt that she so very obviously harbours some deep hatred for me in her black little crack-headed heart.

I still get her nice gifts because I actually like to put thought into the things I do for others--and I must say any gift I'm given I'm grateful for except when it was so very thoughtlessly concieved and done only to keep the gift giver from feeling guilty--, but I ususally cap her presents at $50. It keeps ME from feeling guilty AND from smacking her silly with whatever piece of crap she decided to wrap up and give me that year.

PS That wiener dog is awful! Don't let my sister-in-law near it or it'll probably end up under my tree next year.
Reply:Every year our family does a gift exchange, and for the past few years in a row my aunt has always gotten gifts from my cousin. Year after year, my cousin gives my aunt old, balled-up, extra-large sweaters that had obviously been worn not-so-gently. Yikes! My aunt and I just joked that it could have been worse, say, if my cousin gave her underwear in the same condition instead!!

Merry Christmas! Hope your future gift exchanges go better than my aunt's!
Reply:Some one gave me a pinecone once. They just tied a string around the top and gave it to me as an ornament. They probably plucked one off of their tree on their way out to the dinner/white elephant exchange. They did sprinkle it with some cinnamon or something, though, so it smelled good.

What is the proper gift giving etiquette for a 1 year anniversary?

I have been with my g/f for 1 year and was wanting to give the right gift. Can anyone help?

What is the proper gift giving etiquette for a 1 year anniversary?
Paper is gift for one year. I have a friend who made her husband a page-a-day calendar. Each day was a different reason she loves him. Of course if you can't think of 365 reasons, try doing a monthly calenar (just 12 reasons) and perhaps add pictures of your life togethe over the past year.

Congrats
Reply:go away for the weekend. That's what me and my now husband did for our 1 year dating anniversary. We went to Vegas, it was very fun.
Reply:glass or plate
Reply:Condoms unless you want kids.
Reply:That is so sweet. It is really hard to tell when I have no idea of your age, and financial well being (are you 16 or 28... with a good job). However, a nice evening out, a card and roses would be splendid and meaningful. Look for intamate restaurants... and don't skip desert.
Reply:According to Hallmark and "The Diamond People," something cute and cuddly that dances and sings in crowded airports that takes up approximately three months of your salary, or you really don't care at all and are a horrible person.

Take her out for pizza and let HER pay…

What is a good gift for an organic food lover?

What is a good gift for a person who is new mother and is health conscious about the things she feeds and uses with her family. She has just switched to buying organic foods and has become vey aware of harmful chemicals in alot of products.

What is a good gift for an organic food lover?
I would just walk the organic section, and pick some items that you know she likes. I think a nice basket (or organic, bamboo bowl!) filled with organic pasta and sauce, some organic herbs and spices, sauces, chutneys and jams - things like that would be really nice, and not perishable. That's a really nice gift by the way - you are obviously wanting to put some thought into it! You could also add a nice bottle of wine to be mix, or organic juice, plus some nice, natural linen napkins and such!

I hope that at least inspires you!

Oh - and Terence - it's not just about the pesticides and chemicals that we're digesting off the fruits and veggies, and the hormones that we're pumping into our meats and poultry - it's about the ecological effects of those chemicals and pesticides, and what they are doing to our water supply, our land, and the air we breathe. It is also about sustainable culture and supporting local farmers and companies who want to make this earth a better place for generations to come.

Happy Holidays!
Reply:You know what is a cool gift? Just do your friend a favor and tell her that organic food is really not anymore healthier than regular food. The chemicals present in regular food is of very very small quantity and cannot potentially cause any harm.

If that is not possible, then buy her a hamper filled with dry organic foodstuffs (mustard, jam, spices, etc). No fresh produce though because that won't last long.

What is a unique gift my father could bring me back from Kuwait?

He wants to bring me a gift, but I only want something that is locally made or associated with the local culture.

What is a unique gift my father could bring me back from Kuwait?
Some bukhoor (incense) with a mabkhara (burner) - they can be quite ornamental, and the scent is very typical of the region. A sheesha (water pipe). A coffee pot. A Bedouin woven pillow/bag. Prayer beads.

Best picked up at the Friday Souk (4th Ring Rd, Friday mornings). He should be prepared to dig through mountains of junk and haggle ferociously. Bukhoor can be bought everywhere.

What is a good gift to buy someone who loves art?

I don't know much about art and wanted to buy a gift hopefully a book of some kind that is great for a person who is really into it, any suggestions?

What is a good gift to buy someone who loves art?
I would get him a painting brush tied to a scetch book with a gift card inside for his favorite art store.

If he loves art a Picasso, Monet or Van Gogh would do.
Reply:An art museum membership for a year.
Reply:I love art, and if it were me who was getting the present then I would want a pencil drawing book with the supplies that they would need. Or maybe you could get a history book of a famous artist, like DaVinci or their favorite artist.

-hope thats helpful!
Reply:really nice paint brushes or paint. or if they just love looking at it buy really nice prints or hey an actual picture...
Reply:i would get him a book that's not all about art, but rather a beautiful book. like a williams sonoma london cookbook or something. It is something he can create, but a little out of the box. I am an artist and love beautiful things like these books. i'm sure he'd be happy with art supplies too like some others mentioned, but i have to be honest with you... most artists really like to pick out their own stuff like that and probably won't end up using something you got. here's a link to creative gifts for creative people that i was e-mailed... just go for something wierd/fun/different and that he'll remember came from u.

Reply:There are tons of books about art. It helps of you know what kind, though...or who his/her favorite artist is. A nice coffee table volume would be great.

You could also go to a gallery...even a Deck The Walls store, if there is one near you, and get a nice print for them...again, it helps to know their favorite artist.
Reply:A still life from the Dutch school.

Business closed leaving me with an unredeemed gift certificate. How do I get my money back?

My daughter bought me a gift card for a therapy place that offered massages. The place closed suddenly with no warning given and the owner moved out of state. I'm left with a useless gift certificate and can't use it. I want the value of the certificate returned to me. How do I go about getting my money back?

At best you are an unsecured creditor, a long way down the pecking order of those with claims on the company. I think the prospects of you getting anything for your gift certificate are close to zero. It is probably not worth the time and trouble to pursue it.

Can the prepaid visa gift cards be used to make an online payment?

I want to buy something online but i'm not sure if the prepaid visa gift cards can be used to buy something online. Anyone know?

Can the prepaid visa gift cards be used to make an online payment?
Yes you can. Just when you make a purchase just type the number in. Simple as that. Have the digits on the back of the card handy too. You know the 3 or 4 digit security code.
Reply:Your Prepaid Visa Card works just like a regular credit card, so as long as the online retailer/company accepts Visa credit cards, you should be able to buy items online. You can find more information on using your prepaid card here: http://www.debit-card-guide.com/prepaid_... If you still have a question about whether or not the seller accepts Visa, you can always contact them to ask or review the FAQ section. Contact information should be posted on their website, as well as FAQ’s (Frequently Ask Questions). Hope this helps!
Reply:Yes, you can use a prepaid visa gift card to shop online. But before you do that, you need to register the card with the card issuer (add your name and address to the card), otherwise it may be rejected online.
Reply:I am thinking they wont work. I say this because when you place an order online, the there is generally a verification process that validates your credit card against your address and zip code. You will not be able to do this with a prepaid.

What is the best gift to send to a Army soldier over in iraq?

I want to send a gift around the holiday time for a soldier overseas. Any ideas? I was going to send a Bible but found out he already has one.

What is the best gift to send to a Army soldier over in iraq?
I live in a military town, so we get to talk to a lot of the people who have just got back or who are on a short leave and have to return in a couple weeks to their duty station. A lot of them say they miss home for starters. But they also say they really miss home made food, and since you can't send a steak dinner, they like snack foods, home made cookies or brownies ,etc... and a lot of support from us at home.
Reply:condoms, footies or stockings, sounds crazy but they help keep gun barrels from sand getting into them, send twinkies, cookies, snacks that we have here but not in foreign lands, plus the px aint always there for the troops in the field. so anything is appreciated. send green bandanas, keeps sunburns down on face, and always useful
Reply:Are they in the same season cycle as the US? (I know, my geography is shocking!). If so, you should be fine to send them some wonderful goodies for the holidays.

I imagine they would love some chocolate candy and other delicious snacks that they can't get their hands on. If you want to make up some stuff, there are really good recipes at http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com/home...

If you don't want to make it yourself, there are some quality sellers that even offer free shipping to packages sent to servicemen.
Reply:Send cookies, snacks, energy bars, fudge, etc. That's why we send to our son in Baghdad and he shares with his fellow soldiers, and they love it.
Reply:Personal things work well. Sweets like brownies and cookies are always a big hit.

I forgot, a talking video of people and places back home are also good. It's nice to hear loved ones say they are are thinking of you.
Reply:Food is good, but remember, it's very hot over there. A Chief of mine was in the first Gulf War and said the best thing he ever received was powdered Gatorade. It lasted forever and could be made whenever anybody wanted.
Reply:Edible goodies are always good, especially things that won't melt in the desert heat.

Toiletries that may be hard to obtain there, like toothpaste, soap, the basics.

Maybe a pot of soil and seeds. In such a desolate place it is therapeudic to watch things grow.

Check with the Red Cross for ideas of what is not readily available. (In Vietnam, the Red Cross charged the soldiers for items donated to them, but maybe that's changed this time around.)

What he will appreciate the most is your love and concern, so anything will do!
Reply:Food is always a blessing especially if you have a very small PX where you are...don't send home made stuff because it may not make it to them before it goes bad or if the box gets damaged.

Books and magazines (cars, fitness, games) are pretty good.

Wet wipes are always needed.

Music CD's or special made CD's if you know what type of music they like.
Reply:Music cds, magazines, granola bars, soap, tooth brushes, tooth paste, baby wipes, hand sanitizer

When our son was born I got a cardboard box and put in it all the newspapers from the day he was born, the latest "in" toy, memorabilia from the hit films, the No.1 single and some cheap stuff that people though just might become collectable. The box is now in the loft and over the first few years we added to it - (first shoes etc). His uncle knowing this gave him a bottle of single malt whisky (18 years old), which was put in the box. He'll be given the box on his 18th birthday.

(BTW, the whisky will be worth almost enough to buy him a car by that point!)

Just a thought....

My uncle brought my daughter her 1st stuffed basketball when she was born, it was so cute, she is 14 months old and loves it.

Also, I have seen bibs at Babies-R-Us that say "If you think I'm cute, you should see my Uncle" I think those are so funny!

What is a good gift to give a fellow teacher and administrator?

My husband is a teacher and we want to give a couple of his teachers (the ones he co-teaches with) and two of his administrators a little holiday gift. I made necklaces for them last year but want to do something different. We are also on a super tight budget. I could bake and send along goodies but wanted other suggestions. Thanks!

What is a good gift to give a fellow teacher and administrator?
Chocolate, a bottle of wine, a gift basket, some bath and body works stuff, a holiday candle like from Yankee Candle Company, a gift card for a restaurant for them and their family, a spa gift certificate, a book like The Secret, specialty coffees or tea set, a mug with chocolate or specialty tea bags or something, a starbucks or dunkin donuts gift card, some kind of holiday music/cd, hat/gloves/scarf set, an invitation to dinner or coffee at your house, flowers or a small plant
Reply:Have you ever tried making custom candles? That could be nice, you can taylor them to fit the interests and personalities.

If you are good at baking and crafts, but want something unique, there's always gingerbread houses. Nice and traditional, but getting rare to see them from scratch in this commercial society.

Go to a craft shop or a mini mall and browse around for ideas you can do yourself within your budget. For teachers and administrators, anything you can set on a desk is good.
Reply:you can never go wrong with sweets.

maybe christmas cookies with their names on them?

good luck!
Reply:A nice decent looking chocolate bag is always good ^-^!
Reply:Scarfs! they are cheap this time of year.
Reply:A book, a coffee card, or teas with mug and cookies, a movie, pasta with pasta sauce, homemade fudge, lottery tickets in a small stocking,

What is the best gift to get a 2 year old boy on his birthday?

My little boy's birthday is in a week and a half. I have some things in mind, but what would be a really awesome gift to get for him?

What is the best gift to get a 2 year old boy on his birthday?
My daughter turned 2 last year and we got her lots of educational and developmental toys that will build up her skills.

My mom went out and got her a bike w/training wheels which she loves.

We also got her many books which she also loves.

My mom also bought her a swing set which has swings and a slide.

Another idea might be those battery powered jeeps. My daughter has one and granted she didn't use it until she was about 2 1/2 but she loves it now.
Reply:A toy will please him(mostly cars) and an outfit will please his Mom and Dad as these children keep growing out off their clothes fast
Reply:a month ago i came on here to ask what i should get my little girl for her second birthday and alot of people said a little bike, so if he doesnt have one, i suggest that, she loved it!
Reply:Being his mother you should know the answer
Reply:I like jig-saw puzzles, you can buy really nice hand crafted wooden puzzles.
Reply:Get him a puppy or parrot. The parrot might help with speach developement but the puppy would help with walking and resposibility.
Reply:A toy truck, stuff animal, bike, or take him to the store and let him pick out something.
Reply:My daughter turned 2 a couple of weeks ago, and she got a small kiddie pool. She loved that more than any other gift she got!
Reply:Long-term gift would be a savings bond $50 or $100... and get him one each birthday.

Toy wise? Thomas Tank Engine is a great gift for little guys. The starter set is approximately $25 and comes with tracks and a couple trains (I think Thomas and his coal car, but I can't remember for sure). http://www.hitentertainment.com/thomasan...
Reply:When my son turned two I bought him a couple of great big tonka trucks and let him bulldoze the backyard with them.

And the extra benefit was that I didn't have to cut the grass anymore.
Reply:get him a toy car
Reply:A Great gift is relative to the child, It wouldn't be the same gift for every kid. The greatest gifts are things that you know the child really likes (if he likes Cars %26amp; Trucks= buy him a big one) He likes riding things get him a Big Wheel, If he likes to rough house get him something that wont break easily or a push toy. If he likes to run and be active get him something that he push the head down and it rolls away - so he can chase it. If he's into TV by him Educational Videos that are Fun and Teach with without being to School-like = Dragon Tales. If he's Babi-fied and a Cuddler Get him a Vibrating Stuffed Animal to Hug. Its really all about you knowing your Baby. Great Gifts are not the popular toy on the market or the cutest clothes it stuff that people will actually use, thats how they remember Gifts! So get him something that fits his personality and that he will be likely to use and enjoy.
Reply:Books and 20-30 minutes every day to read them to him. You get to cuddle, laugh, and learn together. What a great way to bond!
Reply:Thomas the train. My son will be 2 in July and he LOVES Thomas the train. Walmart has a ton of thomas stuff in the toy section!!!
Reply:Is he tall enough for a tricycle. My son will be 2 in October and that's what I was thinking.
Reply:*a build a bear

*power wheels ( tractor or cars) Sometimes you can get them at yard sales Cheap!!

*Pick our two or three iteams. Let him decide, like a big boy.

*a trip to a new kids movie ( Cars should be out soon)

*bike

*a swing set (if room and $$)

*basket ball with hoops or baseballs with a bat

I hope these ideas help..
Reply:Color wonder markers and book. They only write on the special paper and best of all; No mess! My daughter thinks it is greast I let her go and she shows me her work. my nephew likes them too. He is 2 also.
Reply:a tricycle that has a removeable handle that an adult can use to push him. Make sure its pretty long so noone will expericence an achy back. Also Leap Frog has an Imagination desk. It is totally portable and has all sorts of activities including coloring pages.
Reply:My son just turned 2 in May. We got him the Elmo knows your name. It is about $40. They also have Dora the Explorer and Pooh. You program Elmo with your childs name, their birthday, their favorite songs, favorite foods, etc. My son loved it - he was really excited that Elmo was saying his name.
Reply:My favorite, single most used present from my son's second b-day...A WAGON- the classic red Radio Flyer!
Reply:mabe a trike or a big wheel that is if he's walking yet
Reply:Get a radio controlled car. He'll love watching it and Dad will think it's Christmas 1980 all over again! He'll love you for it!
Reply:get him like a mini basketball goal ,trike ,kitchen or somethin like that.hope he has a good b-day.and hope my ideas helped!
Reply:I would get him something like.....say if his favorite TV show is Spongebob Square pants then get him a spongebob book bag or something that has Spongebob on it.
Reply:I would give him a puzzle or something-- i gave my 2 year old sister one.. she absolutely LOVED it...so i think that would work.
Reply:Most children are not able to pedal a trike or bike at 24 months. That skill comes at about 30 months or so. What about a wooden train or a Fisher Price Geotrax trainset. Both are very popular and provide a great deal of creative play time. Both are available at ToysRUs.

What is a good gift from the US to send to a girl in Japan?

I'm from the US, and I need to ship a 16 year old japnesse girl a birthday gift. What do you think that she would want from the US?

What is a good gift from the US to send to a girl in Japan?
Magazines! Girls love magazines and even if she can't read them she can see what the American girls are doing a wearing... Also, try to find some trendy earrings or something that look like ones in the magazine you sent. That way she could prove how stylish she is to her friends.
Reply:Anything that she cannot wear. That would be too personal

Maybe a picture of you in a frame, or some place she likes/saw in America . That way her mother can see what you look like as well or what her daughter holds special to her
Reply:Maybe a book or a CD or a DVD of her choice and of course in the right format. Or some stuff that's not yet released in Japan but released in the US first or you could send her a ticket to the US to spend her birthday in the States. You could also send some branded clothing that she would like. Rest depends on her interests!! Good luck deciding...
Reply:A nice juicy Big Mac

mmm...

American goodness
Reply:16 year old girl loves fashion, lotion, perfume and stuff animals of course. If she is in beauty, get her some cute make up or perfumes . If you know her size, get her a nice Italian jacket or some Juicy Couture cute T-shirts. I bet she is still in school, so a cute back pack will be nice.Good Luck!!
Reply:You probably won't find very many 'unique' things to send to her in Japan. It's probably something she had already seen and/or heard of before.

Since technology and just Japan itself is so much more advanced than the US, anything electronics is probably out of the question. And since 'EBAY' and such, you won't need to travel much to get something from another country..

Makeup, backpacks.. eh. They have plenty of that. Even cuter, nicer, cheaper, etc.

I pretty much agree about the magazines, it would be a little entertaining and amusing, she and her friends could get together and talk about how Americans are and what-not. (LOL. From experience.)

Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Teen, etc. Are good selections.

What is your favorite gift to receive or give at a baby shower?

The items listed on my friend registry I don't like and they wouldn't be useful at all. So I'm looking for ideas on a gift. Thanks for your help. What is a must have item for a new baby price range of $100.00.

What is your favorite gift to receive or give at a baby shower?
Well, find out if she needs any big stuff still. Such as swing, bouncer, car seat, etc...

If not, then just stock her up on diapers and wipes! A new mom can never have enough. Just don't buy all newborn sized diapers because most babies grow out of those fairly quickly.

Also, receiving blankets and onesies are extremely useful!
Reply:I agree with icebaby . Buy the common things that they will be using everyday. I also liked getting larger sized clothes. By the time I realized my out grew his clothes I didn't always have time to buy him new ones. Having back up outfits saved the day.
Reply:With my first I was able to read a lot, so will sometimes give books for the parents. Parenting of toddler type ones, also that new Seinfeld mom cookbook looks good.

We have a couples shower coming up, I think we may get all sorts of batteries, a little screwdriver set, and an electric scissors. They are going to get tons of gifts shrunk wrapped in that crappy hard plastic. Plus all the batteries they'll have to unscrew - and put in the mobile, swing, bouncer, etc.

So may do those in a basket of favorite things, and also include the books (ones by a Dr. Karp and Dr. Perlmutter are my favorite) along with baby board books, the Jack Johnson Curious George Lullaby CD, and the hardware stuff above.
Reply:CLOTHES.Wen I HAD MY TWINS I LOVED GETTING CLOTHES 4 DEM.
Reply:A few ideas pop into my head. You can do a theme like "diaper bag" and get her a diaper bag, diapers, wipes, disposable changing pads, travel size: sunscreen, lotion, diaper rash ointment, hand sanitizer, first aid kit, handi-bags (little bags you can wrap diapers or soiled clothes in), a change of clothes to keep in the diaper bag, a small package of burp clothes.

Another idea is a gift that keeps on giving. Go onto amazon.com and set up auto delivery on Huggies diapers for a few months (on auto delivery a case is $27.79 with free shipping and no sales tax, you could set up auto delivery of one case a month for 3 months, or 1 case every 2 months for 6 months, or 1 case every 3 months for 9 months, or 1 case every 4 months for a year would equal $100).

One thing that I have absolutely loved in my Ocean Wonder's Aquarium (I think the current line is Rainforest), that goes inside the crib. It's about $25-30 and I've used it for both of my kids and gotten years of use out of it. And I really love my Rainforest Jumperoo (about $80).
Reply:The baby papasan swing... I LOVE IT... and my baby boy loved it as well... some places like walmart its 119.00 other places its up to 159.99? Anyways, you could always do a giftcard as well.... to babies r us say, orrrr better yet get her an item *( include gift receipt )* on her baby registry... I know you may not like the item, but she does like the item, thats why she added it on, so be a friend and respect her wishes... The timing will come when you'll be a mom too.
Reply:Honestly a bunch of Diapers since that is the most expensive thing for a new baby, or we got a little portable baby swing by fisher price its the aquarium one my daughter is 16 months and still loves this thing. But like I said it sounds dumb but diapers help so much!
Reply:I personally like to get a baby gift that I found particularly useful. This differs from person to person. My favourite thing to add is a large makeup bag with travel size items for mom to include in her bag to bring to the hospital. I put things like shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, chapstick, hand lotion. Anything that you need for personal hygiene while in hospital. That way when mom goes into labor she isn't running around trying to pack those everyday items that she couldn't pack cause she was using them daily.
Reply:You could give her something different.....bottle sterilizer, wipey warmer, etc.I always wanted a wipey warmer and never got one. Those wipeys believe it or not do tend to get a lil cold on baby's bare bottom. Then just get a box of diapers to go with it and your all set.You would be well under a hundred dollars so if you wanted to get a few things extra you could.Maybe an outfit or two.
Reply:give pacifiers, diapers, wonsies, blankets, bottles, bottle warmer, and other things you can never have to many of these things
Reply:Diapers are the best thing in the world to give to a mom because they are going to be needed the next 2 years and like previously stated don't get the newborn size, they grow out of those so quickly. Also, at Target there is a seat that is called the Boppy Cradle in Comfort for about $50 it is a vibrating baby seat, and it is a GOD SEND!!! Something new mom's don't get much of is peace and this thing brought me an hour of peace a day. I loved it and have since given it to my sister in law and she thanked me for that and said it is the most wonderful thing ever invented. Happy Shopping!!
Reply:Diapers, you never can get enough, get size 1, they can exchange if needed. Onesies, also, you never seem to have enough, get 0-3 month and 3-6 month. Then get a basket and fill it with the things they will need, but usually forget to ask for. If this is a 1st time parent, they usually make mistake of asking for all the "neat" "Cute" accessories, and miss the NEED items, so,

In the basket goes:

Thermometer, anal and/or the type that goes in the ear (more commonly used and liked for obv reasons)

Baby wash

Baby shampoo

Baby lotion

Baby wipes - get the ones with the smaller travel case

Qtips

Diaper rash cream Desitin

Baby sunscreen

baby nail kit, or at least the clippers

an aspirator one that is a SINGLE piece ( the thing used to suck out their boogies)

hat and booties - esp if baby due during cold months

Onsies - roll them up and tie ribbon around

if it is a girl - hair accesories

COUPONS for all above and diapers (besides the paper, you can get some great ones online)

still have room? receiving blankets

Since you have a budget of $100, incorporate something from their list.

I left out binkies only because babies are sometimes specific on the type they end up liking, and if you get the wrong one, no matter how cute, they wont use it.
Reply:Wow, you are a good friend! Lots of people will be giving the baby powder, baby lotion, baby shampoo, etc. The ear thermometer already mentioned is an excellent idea. Also, a cool mist vaporizer. New moms don't think of it until baby is already sick. A couple of bottles of Pedialite for when baby is throwing up/diarrhea to keep them from dehydrating. Check the expiration date on the bottle to make sure it has at least 1 year to use. If not, only buy one. It could make all the difference at 2 am. The baby wipe warmer is a fantastic idea. My grandson screamed when it was time to change his diaper. It was just too cold. Another thought is a baby monitor. Another is a baby gate. Although they won't need for a few months, a good one can cost around $100 and by that time, they will have used all the formula, diapers, etc. they got. It will be hard to get a good baby gate and they would probably buy the cheap one you have to step over (many times with baby in hand). The risk of tripping is great. Get them one that opens with one hand and they can walk through. If they have dogs, this would be great for locking puppy up in the kitchen while baby is on the floor relaxing on a blanket or learning to crawl. I like to wait until right before the shower and then check the registry to see what is still needed. If nothing else is needed, you are off the hook with your friends wishes ;-) Good luck, Rail
Reply:Mine was my Diaper cake it was AMAZING!!! and two months in I am still using the diapers from it. Mine was a three layer cake my friend made on top Size NB second size one and third layer Size 2 on my cake she decorated with baby brushes bottles some onsies and a pair of shoes she made it herself and it looked great plus it was a nice decoration for the baby shower. Its not too much money and for about $100 I think you could make and or buy a great one that she'll remember forever!!!

Heres mine

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cf...

And on ebay there is a member who has a store and she makes them with character designs like pooh precious moments ECT.

Butyou can make it yourself with just a little bit of time!

Plus you can put practical items on it like sample sized soaps lotions aby oil thermometors, a nose bubble ect.

Hope this helps!
Reply:well, my favorite items to give are clothing... or at least they WERE (just because they're so darn cute) until I had my own shower for my baby...

the things i appreciated the most were gift cards, diapers, essential items (bath stuff like towels, washcloths, shampoo, soap, a tub)

my sister actually gave me the best gift. she bought me my tub and filled it with EVERYTHING. some clothes, johnsons baby soap, baby powder, baby oil, shampoo, pacifiers, a changing mat, towels + washcloths, petroleum jelly, alcohol swabs, all of that kind of stuff. it was probably the best gift i received at my shower. it was just very practical, but also very thoughtful.
Reply:Diaper genie, Ocean wonders crib aquirium, diapers, if bottle feeding bottle steamer %26amp; bottle warmer, bibs with velcro closures, tempra, cover for car seat...for short jonts from house to car....just a few ideas.
Reply:A swing is great, so is a bouncy chair. I would pick the swing, my daughter loves hers!!

Any ideas for a COOL INEXPENSIVE housewarming gift for my Kids/grandkids new home?

My kids(daughter and son in law) and wonderful grandkids just moved into their 1st home (owners!!!). I want a unique gift idea! I have never been able to buy a home myself, am on the poverty level, however want to give them an awesome housewarming gift. I am a gardener so they know I will do all that!!! i am also very craft oriented. I am taking to their new house enough supplies to make 4 stepping stones that they can put their paw prints(ha-ha) in or any special whatevers. Any ot5her unique yet inexpensive ideas? Thanks

Any ideas for a COOL INEXPENSIVE housewarming gift for my Kids/grandkids new home?
get them a nice clock
Reply:Believe it or not, I wanted two things and never got either of them. One was a garbage disposal (and now I keep having to unclog the drain... however, that is a bit more expensive than what you'd probably want to buy and might be already in there!) and the other one was a fire extinguisher. The fire extinguisher would have been nice because it's a safety thing and also would have saved us a little bit on our home insurance if we had one when they asked. (They're not all that expensive either!!)

So... my idea is to get them a fire extinguisher. Tell them so that they'll stay safe and also save a bit on their house insurance.
Reply:How about a nice wind chime?
Reply:Since you want a cool gift, I don't recommend a small appliance and so forth. Reed fragrance diffusers by Manhattan Diffusion are really cool and not expensive. They could put this near the front door of their new home and every time they come home they'll be greeted by a wonderful fragrance that just says "welcome home." Here's a link to where I get them:

http://www.everythingfragrant.com/reed-d...

The lavender is great, the triple red is great too. What I like about them is they are not overpowering so they won't offend guys or make it hard on people with allergies. They last for about 6 months! And they look really cool, especially under a lamp where they catch the light. Good luck!
Reply:How about a personalized ( painted) mail box. They are inexpensive and you can paint it yourself!
Reply:You can create a gift basket with some essentials for the home. For example, you can put dishwasher soap, dishware, towels, snacks and anything else you would consider an essential for the home. You can also create a theme gift basket such as a gardening basket that only contains things they can use in the garden. For example, gloves, seeds and gardening tools.
Reply:A space heater always works well as a house warming gift.
Reply:If the Grand-kids are small, make them a 6 foot "Yardstick" made out of single strips of "Lattace" that can be found at any lumber yard or home improvement store, to put in a closet door frame to mark the height of each child as they grow. Decorate it as needed and don't forget to include the measurement marks! (inches down to 1/4 inches the entire length)
Reply:Something with each 'kid's' name or initial would be nice.

Maybe wooden letters for their room walls, or coat-hooks.
Reply:How about taking a picture of them all standing in front their new home and put it in front of a new scrapbook or photo album? It's a new chapter in their life so they can start a new book! : )

What is an appropriate gift to bring a business person in Bangalore, India?

I am going on a business trip in about 3 weeks to Bangalore, India and I'm coming from the USA. There are 5 people (men) that I work with from Bangalore to whom I would like to bring a small gift.

Obviously, I won't have alot of room in my luggage, but I would like to bring something nice, that cannot be purchased in India, yet would have some meaning for the recipients.

What would you think is appropriate?

What is an appropriate gift to bring a business person in Bangalore, India?
Almost everything is available here. Still there are few things which are not so easily available in India. I am giving below my choices -

1. Adult toy (not legally available in India)

2. Pre Electric Shave Lotion (not available in India)

3. Portable MP3 player (IPOD look alike - available here but costly)

4. Home security gadgets (not much available here)

5. Electronic Dictionary.
Reply:Hi, maybe try here and good luck!
Reply:Almost anything and everything can be purchased in India. I'd suggest you go with individual preferences of the 5 people you intend buying gifts for.

It's the thought that really counts!
Reply:Unique art gift is the best present.

There is a web site –http://www.photoartomation.com , they convert a digital photos into paintings of different art styles and print them on canvas.

My friend sent them a picture and they turned it into beautiful piece of art. I saw it and it really looks good.

Are you suppose to claim prize money won in a gift card?

I won 1500 on the radio and received the prize money in gift cards from Toys R Us. I had to fill out a W-9 for the radio station. How do I handle this during tax time?

Are you suppose to claim prize money won in a gift card?
The radio station will send you a 1099MISC for the prize money. The amount of the prize money is entered on Line 21 of Form 1040 "Other Income". List this as "Prize from radio station XXXXX" or something like that. The income is not subject to SS or Medicare taxes.

The IRS will receive a copy of that 1099MISC and will be looking that you put this income on your return.
Reply:You will disclose your winnings on Line 21 on a 1040 form which will be added to your wages.
Reply:Any income is taxable.
Reply:You'll get a 1099 from the radio station for the amount. But whether you get it or not, the amount goes on the "other income" line on your tax return - it is taxable income.

How does one find companies interested in purchasing images to be used for gift wrapping paper?

I've tried Alibaba, a business network based in China. Manufacturers want me to pay them to make gift wrapping paper. Suppliers want me to supply them with the wrapping paper. My goal is to sell images to companies that make - or supply - gift wrapping paper.

How does one find companies interested in purchasing images to be used for gift wrapping paper?
(...well why would they...it seems pretty obvious they would do that in-house...

...I think the only way to do it is to make the paper and license it but imagery isn't enough I think...there's just too many free ideas out there...they can buy entire clip art collections for $100...and who really cars, it's just gift wrapping paper...it's completely understood it's going to be thrown away so who cares about that...)

Methods to avoid gift tax with the use of offshore transactions?

Can you tell me (or refer me to information on) methods to avoid gift tax with the use of offshore transactions?

Methods to avoid gift tax with the use of offshore transactions?
Just make maximum use of the 12,000 annual exclusion per donee. This includes spouses and children of the primary donee. And if you are married your spouse can split the gifts with you. Wealthy donors do this annually so if you have a large family you can give away a lot. If you go over the 12,000 for one donee you still get a 1 million exemption before paying tax. And your spouse does too.
Reply:There aren't any. Any gift you give is subject to the US Gift Tax if you are a US citizen or resident. Where the gift transacts is irrelevant to your obligation to file a Gift Tax return and pay any Gift Tax due.

Whats the best gift basket you have recieved at work?

I need to put together 100 gift baskets for Christmas to give to our business clients and am wondering what are some of the best items you have found in your lunchroom? Keep in mind we are in Hawaii so no cold weather for us =o) Thanks!

Whats the best gift basket you have recieved at work?
And no alcohol. Not all business clients appreciate alcohol as a gift. As a gift basket company, I do thousands of these each year. The most popular foods are those that are easy to eat, a mixture of sweet and salty, and foods that cannot be found in your local grocery store. Gourmet means different things to different people -- it simply means "good food". If you are putting together 100 gift baskets, you should be able to buy some very unique but wonderful snack foods wholesale. Plan to spend a lot of hours putting them together. You'll find that 100 baskets is a lot of baskets. Good luck.

What type of gift can we send a kid in juvenile detention?

My son has a friend who's in a juvenile detention facility and he wants to send him a Christmas gift. I have no idea what would be allowed. My son was thinking a music CD? Wold that be acceptable?

What type of gift can we send a kid in juvenile detention?
The thing he would probably appreciate most is some money in his canteen account.

You would have to check with the facility to see if personal CD players are even allowed.
Reply:how bout a butt whoopin'...jk.. you would have to call and ask about their rules on what is authorized. all systems are different so its hard to say. I think a card would be efficient enough

I am looking for a really nice vegan (food/treat) gift basket that is fairly inexpensive. I have attempted searching online, but all I get back are products I have never tried before. I would hate to send a gift basket full of crappy food.

What can I do about a lost Wal-Mart gift card that I purchased?

Last night I bought a Wal-Mart gift card to give as a present, in the amount of $20. Somewhere between buying the card and taking it home, I lost it -- I've looked all over and I think I'm ready to give up. However the receipt shows the gift card ID #, can I take the receipt to the store, get the gift card cancelled and have my money refunded?

What can I do about a lost Wal-Mart gift card that I purchased?
i think you should call the store manager or head office of Wal-Mart. because i am pretty sure the can found the bar code of that card you lost from their computer. And they can cancel that card and issue a new one for you. But its hard to proof you lost gift card .sometime its stores policy I you lost a gift card it nothing they can do, because gift card consider as cash. If you lose you it you lose. i think you should try you best. Goodluck!
Reply:Yes as long as you have the recepit you can get a new card.
Reply:Wal-mart, like most other retailers, treat gift cards just like cash: if you lose them, you're out of luck. They don't cancel gift cards or issue refunds. Sorry!

What is the single most important gift of advice you have ever received?

How did this advice change your life?

For me, it was: "You can choose to NOT be angry."

This gift of advice gave me conscious control of my emotions. By choosing to not be angry, I can be displeased with something and yet choose to not allow myself to become angry over it, when I would normally be very angry.

Choosing to not be angry is an incredible power of self-control.

NOTE: To all who respond. Please use my example as a blueprint. Provide just ONE gift of advice - THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. And explain how it changed your life (which would clarify why it is the most imortant one).

Thanks to all.

A. Qurius Muse

What is the single most important gift of advice you have ever received?
I have received a lot of good advice in my life, so it's hard to know where start! Great question, thanks for asking it!

I like this one in particular though, because it's so true. A teaching assistant once taught me that:

"You can be arrogant, or you can be stupid, but you can't be both."

Smart, arrogant people can't be sexy! However, the majority of arrogant people are pretty dumb. Every time one of them gets on their high horse, I think about this quote, and it makes me laugh!
Reply:" It doesn't matter if anyone believes in your dreams - just because they think their opinion matter doesn't give them a right to vote on the success of your life! It'd be nice, it'd be help-full, but it's not necessary. God gave YOU the ability to achieve your dreams." - Pat Schatzline

These statements changed my life because they revolutionized the way I think about my future - now it's not dependent on the kindness of a publishing house or the ability of someone else to see where my dreams are going; now it's just the end result of a wild and adventurous process.
Reply:To take my bad experiences and start looking at them like learning experiences. So as not to make the same mistakes twice.

This changed my life because for so long my life was bad, bad, and more bad. I started to fall apart and was always feeling sorry for myself and waiting for someone else to come along and fix my mistakes. And while I was waitng my life was passing by and I was making the same mistakes again and again.

Those words just hit me in the face. I realized only I could change, I couldn't change the people in my life.

My whole perspective on everything changed. I live different now. I'm happy now. Instead of crying and staying in bed for days when I get kicked down, I learn from it, I walk away with a new experience, maybe those experiences can help someone else.

Reply:Always tell the turth. Then I don't have to worry about a lie I told.

Made me realize sulking was a waste of time.
Reply:The advice was to for once in your life ask yourself why you believe what you believe and then to systematically examine your beliefs and prove to yourself that your beliefs are based upon reality. The advice is also sometimes stated as -

place your trust not in what your parents have taught you no in what learned elders have taught you not in what "the wise" have taught you , but in what you have proven to yourself.

Sometimes told to others as -

Don't believe what I say just because I say it.

First time I came across this advice I was about 14 years of age and read it in a discourse by Rene Descartes (creator of the Cartesian coordinate system) and also credited with the saying "I think therefore I am".

Descartes postulated that most of our beliefs are based upon what we have been told is true and little is based upon what we have found to be true for ourselves.

Your "you can choose to be angry"

had no meaning to you until you examined it and proved it to yourself to be true.

At some point you were taught to be angry and that anger was a normal response to something. You "unlearned" this and proved to yourself something different.

What do you recommend for a gift to a young lady who is visiting Europe for the first time?

I have a friend who is travelling to Western Europe for her first time. I am not sure what holiday gifts to give in order to "enhance" her trip. She will be travelling by herself and she will be on a Contiki Tour. She will be there from mid-December to early January. I think she will likely visit the UK, France, etc.

What gift idea do you have? Thank you!

What do you recommend for a gift to a young lady who is visiting Europe for the first time?
Suggestions: Digital camera with spare batteries and memory sticks, voltage convertors, a nice leather passport holder, a security pouch she can wear under her clothes, CASH, rent an international cell phone for her, a hair dryer in international voltage, CASH, Cash, CASH!!
Reply:a little book she could use as a travel journal :)

oh yes, and some cash for clothes, she will be tripping about our fashion *lol*
Reply:I would say a nice tour book, one that has a lot of pictures, but also with phrases and pronunciation. You could also give her a digital camera, one that connects easily to any computer without having to install it. Another idea could be some adapters for her hair "equipment" since it won't plug in there. A really nice coat would work it gets pretty cold. How about a travel scrapbook?
Reply:$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Reply:Do you know what I gave to my mum before she left for the pre-winter China trip? A trolley-type luggage. She found it useful, and so I recommend the same for your friend too!
Reply:A good digital camera to help her easily record all the wonderful experiences.

If you were thinking of spending a little less, then find a really nice journal and pen, so that she can keep a record of her thoughts and impressions. You can write something appropriate in the front.
Reply:an international electricity adapter plug set~

they don't have the same plugs in Europe as they do in the US.

this is perfect to charge up batteries, cell phones, or using the hairdryer.

What is the worst gift you have received in a gift exchange?

We had a gift exchange tonight, with the price ranging b/w $5 and $15. I bought a $10 gift certificate to Wal-Mart to give. Guess what I recieved? A small used box of pens with the pens inside only1/8-1/2 of the way full. I am a little irked b/c i spent $10 on a gift and received something so thoughtless.

What is the worst gift you have received in a gift exchange?
A plastic mitten dryer that goes over floor heating vents. Took me a while to figure out what it was and since I have no floor heating vents or 4 pairs of mitts to put on it, I found it pretty useless. Of course, the fact that I saw it on sale at the Bargain Shop for .99 cents didn't make it any better. My dog ended up using it as a chew toy.
Reply:A ham. I have no idea how to cook a ham.
Reply:I got an opened pack of dipers. Plus I was 12 and I had no younger siblings.
Reply:In primary school I got a coloring book that was already colored in.

What kind of gift jars can i give using cereal?

id like to make gift jars for my family this christmas and i have a ton of rice krispies, kix and cornflakes that i would like to use in the jars somehow. thanks for any ideas !

What kind of gift jars can i give using cereal?
A twist on this is to make a savory crispy chicken coating using cornflakes, kind of like homemade super yummy shake n bake. I'm sure you could find a recipe on line.

If you do the sweet cereal bars, I would pack the marshmallows separate, since that's the way those recipes cook up.

I admire your resourcefulness!

Reply:Layer the cereal along with other ingredients to make snack bars. For Rice Krispies, you could layer them with mini marshmallows, raisins, chocolate chips, etc. Most of the boxes have recipes listed on the boxes. Just use the dry ingredients in the jar, and slip a copy of the recipe under the lid before you close it up.
Reply:Make Puppy Chow. It calls for Chex cereal - but you can use rice krispies of cornflakes instead. Delicious!!!

CHEX MIX PUPPY CHOW

9 cup Chex

1 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/4 cup butter

1/4 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Put cereal in large bowl. Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

Pour over Chex cereal, put into a large plastic bag with powdered sugar and shake well to coat.

Spread mixture evenly on wax paper and allow to cool.

How do I display balloons on the wall at a gift shop?

I would like to put inflated balloons on the walls at a gift shop. Can anybody tell me how to do it? I would hate to keep on inflating the balloons every time they become disinflated? Any sugesstions?

How do I display balloons on the wall at a gift shop?
Your not supposed to inflate them. Just tac or tape them to the wall. Inflating them every day would be less stressful and still get the point across.

What type of gift should I give to a graduate from culinary school?

All I can think of is stuff a chef would use. Are gift cards appropriate or should I give cash?

What type of gift should I give to a graduate from culinary school?
If this is a friend, and you are giving a small to moderate amount of money, a gift card would be fine. If you are talking about your spouse or child and you want to give something major, they would probably prefer cash, unless you know exactly where they tend to shop (or if you give something like an American Express or VISA gift card that they can use in most places).
Reply:How about a gift certificate to Williams-Sonoma
Reply:Gift cards are useful like you might want to consider a Barnes and Nobles one, that way they can look for books they like or cook books.
Reply:Go more personal get some culinary items they will need in their new profession

How much do gift shops pay for greeting cards at wholesale?

My daughter (who is 8yrs) wants to design her own greeting cards and I will get them printed. How much can I expect gift stores to pay at wholesale. I'd like RRP to be $4.95 / $5.50 / $5.95 I don't want to target newsagencies.

How much do gift shops pay for greeting cards at wholesale?
"Think about price, retailer will expect to make at least 100% mark up on your cards."

Above is from GCA website. They are in the UK.

How much in gift cards as presents for preschool teachers would be ok?

My son is "graduating" to Kindergarten, he has been in preschool for 2 years and has 2 teachers who have been doing a great job (my son is quite difficult to manage), and also my daughter is a current student and will be with them next year.

I'd like to give a present to each, maybe a Gift Cards, but I don't know how much money would be reasonable to put in them.

Thank you for your serious opinion.

How much in gift cards as presents for preschool teachers would be ok?
As a former preschool teacher, I'd have to agree with the $10-$30 bracket.
Reply:Well as teachers go they usually spend a lot of their own money to enrich the educational experience so I would suggest $25.00 each. It is likely the teacher spent way more on your kids because they love the job and want what is best for the student (take it from an aspiring teacher)
Reply:i am a preschool teacher, and i am glad you are going with gift certificates. it is our most appreciated gift. (although i love hanging plants also). i would say anywhere between $15.00 and $25.00 is very nice.
Reply:The economy isn't in the best condition, $25.00 each would be too much, it's just a token of appreciation - give $15.00 each! They will get additional gifts from other families and also Teacher's Appreciation was just last month.
Reply:I would go with $25. I once gave a teacher a gift certificate for $10...and she gave me one for $20 (I had volunteered a lot in her classroom). Very embarrassing!
Reply:I say anwhere from 10-30 dollars in more then enough...because they are going to expect at least that next year.
Reply:$25
Reply:I'LL GO WITH $25
Reply:I think you also need to take into consideration how nice of daycare of it. Ahem... are you paying out alot for a really nice daycare or it is more budget friendly? $25 is generous either way, but $10 may look cheap at a nicer center.

How much tax do you have to pay on money you recieved as a gift.?

I know you can give someone up to $10,000 a year as a gift. But how much if you gave $150,000? Would it be considered income an the standard income taxes apply, or are the taxes different on large cash gifts?

How much tax do you have to pay on money you recieved as a gift.?
Consult a tax professional on this one, it isn't income, and it may not be taxable for either party. There are special tax rules for gifts as indicated in Publication 950.

This is what the IRS says:

%26lt;Quote%26gt;

IRS Tax Tip 2007-39

If you gave any one person gifts in 2006 that valued at more than $12,000, you must report the total gifts to the Internal Revenue Service and may have to pay tax on the gifts.

The person who receives your gift does not have to report the gift to the IRS or pay gift or income tax on its value.

%26lt;/Quote%26gt;
Reply:The person receiving the gift does not owe any tax on the gift.

The person giving the gist needs to file a IRS form 709 (Gift Tax Return) reporting the gift. The giver can give $12,000 a year to any number of individuals without having to file a report. The amount given to a single individual in excess of $12,000 per year is report and counts against the $100,000 lifetime exclusion.
Reply:Receivers of gifts do not pay tax on the gift.

The Giver of a gift over $12000 must file a Gift Tax Return and may or may not have to pay gift taxes depending on how much they have already given away.
Reply:You don't pay anything on a gift you receive. If one person gives you ove $12K in a calendar year, THEY would have to file a gift tax return, and if any tax is due, they would be the one to pay it.
Reply:You pay no tax on gifts that you receive, regardless of the amount.
Reply:I am not sure about US but in Canada you do not have to pay taxes on a gift or lottery winnings for 1 year. After that the taxes you pay would be the same as the tax bracket you would be in for making that sum of money in one year. So can be as high as 50%. May be different in the US. Also I believe amounts under $25000 are not subject to taxes. Best thing to do is if you get a large sum of money is to invest it as they cannot tax investments until youi cash them out.
Reply:Person that receives a gift never has to pay taxes on the gift, no matter if it's 1 cent or 1 Trillion dollars. Person giving the gift can give up to $12,000 per year without triggering a gift tax return, but even if the person exceeds the $12,000 limit they would have to file a gift tax return, but have a $1,000,000 lifetime exclusion to draw against.
Reply:Figure 45%. That is, if you declare it.

How can I buy travel vouchers to give as a gift?

I would like to buy travel vouchers to give as a gift. They would be for travel originating in the UK - most likely to European destinations.

Ideally they could be redeamed online and could be spent on both air travel and hotels.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

How can I buy travel vouchers to give as a gift?
You can buy airline vouchers directly from the airline - most offer them on their website. Virgin Atlantic offers "Virgin Vouchers" in denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50. They're sent out in a stylish wallet along with a list of all the places where they can be used.

Here's the website w/ more info and where the vouchers can be used: http://www.thevirginvoucher.co.uk/info/w...

What kind of gift is suitable for a running coach?

I am trying to come up with a good gift idea for my running coaches...they are marathon coaches for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I would like to get them something for all of their hard work this season...I need some ideas.

What kind of gift is suitable for a running coach?
a golden stopwatch

I'll bet your training group collectively has dozens if not hundreds of digital photos. Throw a "scrapbooking" party! Don't tell your coaches; just knock their socks off later...
Reply:Don't get them something running related, they already have that kind of stuff. Kayleigh's got the right idea, make a donation in their name and a nice picture of you guys in a nice frame. Its meaningful gift. Maybe put together a slide show for them as a keepsake.

I think its nice your doing this for the coaches. Its a good way to keep these coaches motivated and to keep up with their good work.
Reply:well the best gift is something they will always use and it will be helpful so maybe like some sunglasses if they always run in sunny weather...maybe an ipod new or used(myabe the small shuffle 2 that clips on)....or the whole ipod nano plus nike run thing where it tracks you run progress on the ipod and the sensor is in the shoe...
Reply:I would get him a custom embroidered jacket or duffle/coach bag. I would check out http://www.universityfashions.com They have a lot of items that can be customized with embroidery. They have design or you can create your own. I've ordered a couple of gifts from them and have been very pleased.

Goodl Luck!
Reply:That is really cool that you're doing that.

I would get them a gift card to a local running store they like to shop at or even a card that says how much you appreaciate what they have done for you.

Does the person receiving a cash gift have to pay tax or report it?

I'm not sure I read everything about gift and tax, but I think the person giving the cash gift have to report after $11k but only pay tax after $1mil/lifetime. But I'm not sure about the one receiving it.

Does the person receiving a cash gift have to pay tax or report it?
Yes it is true. For gift tax there is a unified tax credit of $ 345000(2004) which works out to a gift exemption per lifetime of $ 1,000,000

Gift tax is payable only by donors.

Why? ..

The purpose is to make the donor liable for estate tax that would have been payable had the owner not made the gift and included that amount in his estate. The estate tax return is considered a person's final gift tax return for purpose of computing the gift tax.

A donor who gives more than $ 11000 gifts or $ 22000 if married and gift splitting is elected, to a single donee should file the gift tax return(which keeps track of a donors lifetime taxable gifts to date).

Other points:

Any transfer of any real or personal property, tangible or intangible property for less than full consideration is taxable gift.

The annual exclusion is per donee per year. No annual exclusion is provided for a gift with future interest. A future interest is where there is a postponement by the donor of the benefit or right to enjoyment of the gift.

There are certain gifts for which there are unlimited exclusions

a) Payment of tuition fees to an educational institution on behalf of a donee.

b) Payment made to a healthcare provider on behalf of a donee

c)Charitable gifts

d)Gifts between spouses

Moreover incomplete gifts are not considered to be gifts for the purpose of gift tax. An incomplete gift is when the gift is conditional or is revocable.

A gift is revocable when the donor reserves the right to change the donee or take back the gift.

Sounds covert and almost sneaky. Like a trojan horse.

Be up front and share the holiday cheer for free.
