What is a good gift to get for someone leaving for Germany?

A friend of mine is leaving for Germany next week and I would like to give a German themed gift when I go to say goodbye? Does anyone have ideas about a nice or funny gift that I could get?

What is a good gift to get for someone leaving for Germany?
you have to give him a memory. Something that he can enjoy.

Something relevant to his interests...

Have you taken an array of photos throughout your relationship? If so try photoartomation.com

We were very impressed with the whole process. Everything was extremely professional and the customer service we received was outstanding. The photoartomation staff was extremely accommodating. The painting turned out beautiful. In fact, when we received it, it looked even better in person than it did in the email preview. And price was better than anything else we found.
Reply:We love photoartomation drawing! A great memory gift of us to remember a lifetime. Report It

Reply:Enough Euro's for lunch and cab fare to the hotel from the airport...
Reply:a beer mug or a weizen glass
Reply:I would go just the opposite and give him something totally American to remind him of home and his friend here.
Reply:I actually moved to Germany in June, and some friends got me the coolest gift ever, I laugh every time I see it.

Four of them gave it to me together, so it was a pillow, with a photo of each of them on the front.

Above the photos in red fabric pen they'd written "Oh Kelsi..."

and below "it's a wild world", on the back it said "It's hard to get by, just put on a smile"

Then they signed their names on the four corners of the back of the pillow.

These are lyrics to a Cat Stevens song that I really like, but the thing was they messed up the lyrics. It really goes "it's hard to get by just upon a smile", None of them really listen to Cat Steven, so they didn't know. I thought it was pretty cool. I love seeing their photos on it all the time.

As far as german themed items...hmmm. That's kind of tough, because it needs to be travel sized. That's why the pillow was so cool, it was a small one, so I just carried it on to the plane.

You know, I would get either a gift certificate to a cool mexican restaurant, or bring some homemade enchiladas.

There is NO DECENT MEXICAN FOOD IN GERMANY.

It is probably what I miss most about california.

Good luck.
Reply:If your friend is moving to Bavaria, give her a good rain coat, rain boots, and umbrella. I moved here 3 months ago, and it seems like it rains here 4 out of 7 days a week! I need to buy a lined rain coat because it´s not cold and damp! No wonder it´s so dang pretty and green here.
Reply:An address book with at least your address in it and some Euros.
Reply:I always think when someone goes travelling it is a good idea to give them a book with empty lined pages so they can keep a travel diary. You may want to stick a German flag on the cover, or you can write the date and day of the week on each page (in German of course). So just to let you know: The weekdays are Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch, Donnerstag, Freitag, Samstag, Sonntag, and today's date would be 25. 9. 2007 in our way of writing.
