What is the best gift to send to a Army soldier over in iraq?

I want to send a gift around the holiday time for a soldier overseas. Any ideas? I was going to send a Bible but found out he already has one.

What is the best gift to send to a Army soldier over in iraq?
I live in a military town, so we get to talk to a lot of the people who have just got back or who are on a short leave and have to return in a couple weeks to their duty station. A lot of them say they miss home for starters. But they also say they really miss home made food, and since you can't send a steak dinner, they like snack foods, home made cookies or brownies ,etc... and a lot of support from us at home.
Reply:condoms, footies or stockings, sounds crazy but they help keep gun barrels from sand getting into them, send twinkies, cookies, snacks that we have here but not in foreign lands, plus the px aint always there for the troops in the field. so anything is appreciated. send green bandanas, keeps sunburns down on face, and always useful
Reply:Are they in the same season cycle as the US? (I know, my geography is shocking!). If so, you should be fine to send them some wonderful goodies for the holidays.

I imagine they would love some chocolate candy and other delicious snacks that they can't get their hands on. If you want to make up some stuff, there are really good recipes at http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com/home...

If you don't want to make it yourself, there are some quality sellers that even offer free shipping to packages sent to servicemen.
Reply:Send cookies, snacks, energy bars, fudge, etc. That's why we send to our son in Baghdad and he shares with his fellow soldiers, and they love it.
Reply:Personal things work well. Sweets like brownies and cookies are always a big hit.

I forgot, a talking video of people and places back home are also good. It's nice to hear loved ones say they are are thinking of you.
Reply:Food is good, but remember, it's very hot over there. A Chief of mine was in the first Gulf War and said the best thing he ever received was powdered Gatorade. It lasted forever and could be made whenever anybody wanted.
Reply:Edible goodies are always good, especially things that won't melt in the desert heat.

Toiletries that may be hard to obtain there, like toothpaste, soap, the basics.

Maybe a pot of soil and seeds. In such a desolate place it is therapeudic to watch things grow.

Check with the Red Cross for ideas of what is not readily available. (In Vietnam, the Red Cross charged the soldiers for items donated to them, but maybe that's changed this time around.)

What he will appreciate the most is your love and concern, so anything will do!
Reply:Food is always a blessing especially if you have a very small PX where you are...don't send home made stuff because it may not make it to them before it goes bad or if the box gets damaged.

Books and magazines (cars, fitness, games) are pretty good.

Wet wipes are always needed.

Music CD's or special made CD's if you know what type of music they like.
Reply:Music cds, magazines, granola bars, soap, tooth brushes, tooth paste, baby wipes, hand sanitizer

racing shoes
