What is your favorite gift to receive or give at a baby shower?

The items listed on my friend registry I don't like and they wouldn't be useful at all. So I'm looking for ideas on a gift. Thanks for your help. What is a must have item for a new baby price range of $100.00.

What is your favorite gift to receive or give at a baby shower?
Well, find out if she needs any big stuff still. Such as swing, bouncer, car seat, etc...

If not, then just stock her up on diapers and wipes! A new mom can never have enough. Just don't buy all newborn sized diapers because most babies grow out of those fairly quickly.

Also, receiving blankets and onesies are extremely useful!
Reply:I agree with icebaby . Buy the common things that they will be using everyday. I also liked getting larger sized clothes. By the time I realized my out grew his clothes I didn't always have time to buy him new ones. Having back up outfits saved the day.
Reply:With my first I was able to read a lot, so will sometimes give books for the parents. Parenting of toddler type ones, also that new Seinfeld mom cookbook looks good.

We have a couples shower coming up, I think we may get all sorts of batteries, a little screwdriver set, and an electric scissors. They are going to get tons of gifts shrunk wrapped in that crappy hard plastic. Plus all the batteries they'll have to unscrew - and put in the mobile, swing, bouncer, etc.

So may do those in a basket of favorite things, and also include the books (ones by a Dr. Karp and Dr. Perlmutter are my favorite) along with baby board books, the Jack Johnson Curious George Lullaby CD, and the hardware stuff above.
Reply:CLOTHES.Wen I HAD MY TWINS I LOVED GETTING CLOTHES 4 DEM.
Reply:A few ideas pop into my head. You can do a theme like "diaper bag" and get her a diaper bag, diapers, wipes, disposable changing pads, travel size: sunscreen, lotion, diaper rash ointment, hand sanitizer, first aid kit, handi-bags (little bags you can wrap diapers or soiled clothes in), a change of clothes to keep in the diaper bag, a small package of burp clothes.

Another idea is a gift that keeps on giving. Go onto amazon.com and set up auto delivery on Huggies diapers for a few months (on auto delivery a case is $27.79 with free shipping and no sales tax, you could set up auto delivery of one case a month for 3 months, or 1 case every 2 months for 6 months, or 1 case every 3 months for 9 months, or 1 case every 4 months for a year would equal $100).

One thing that I have absolutely loved in my Ocean Wonder's Aquarium (I think the current line is Rainforest), that goes inside the crib. It's about $25-30 and I've used it for both of my kids and gotten years of use out of it. And I really love my Rainforest Jumperoo (about $80).
Reply:The baby papasan swing... I LOVE IT... and my baby boy loved it as well... some places like walmart its 119.00 other places its up to 159.99? Anyways, you could always do a giftcard as well.... to babies r us say, orrrr better yet get her an item *( include gift receipt )* on her baby registry... I know you may not like the item, but she does like the item, thats why she added it on, so be a friend and respect her wishes... The timing will come when you'll be a mom too.
Reply:Honestly a bunch of Diapers since that is the most expensive thing for a new baby, or we got a little portable baby swing by fisher price its the aquarium one my daughter is 16 months and still loves this thing. But like I said it sounds dumb but diapers help so much!
Reply:I personally like to get a baby gift that I found particularly useful. This differs from person to person. My favourite thing to add is a large makeup bag with travel size items for mom to include in her bag to bring to the hospital. I put things like shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, chapstick, hand lotion. Anything that you need for personal hygiene while in hospital. That way when mom goes into labor she isn't running around trying to pack those everyday items that she couldn't pack cause she was using them daily.
Reply:You could give her something different.....bottle sterilizer, wipey warmer, etc.I always wanted a wipey warmer and never got one. Those wipeys believe it or not do tend to get a lil cold on baby's bare bottom. Then just get a box of diapers to go with it and your all set.You would be well under a hundred dollars so if you wanted to get a few things extra you could.Maybe an outfit or two.
Reply:give pacifiers, diapers, wonsies, blankets, bottles, bottle warmer, and other things you can never have to many of these things
Reply:Diapers are the best thing in the world to give to a mom because they are going to be needed the next 2 years and like previously stated don't get the newborn size, they grow out of those so quickly. Also, at Target there is a seat that is called the Boppy Cradle in Comfort for about $50 it is a vibrating baby seat, and it is a GOD SEND!!! Something new mom's don't get much of is peace and this thing brought me an hour of peace a day. I loved it and have since given it to my sister in law and she thanked me for that and said it is the most wonderful thing ever invented. Happy Shopping!!
Reply:Diapers, you never can get enough, get size 1, they can exchange if needed. Onesies, also, you never seem to have enough, get 0-3 month and 3-6 month. Then get a basket and fill it with the things they will need, but usually forget to ask for. If this is a 1st time parent, they usually make mistake of asking for all the "neat" "Cute" accessories, and miss the NEED items, so,

In the basket goes:

Thermometer, anal and/or the type that goes in the ear (more commonly used and liked for obv reasons)

Baby wash

Baby shampoo

Baby lotion

Baby wipes - get the ones with the smaller travel case

Qtips

Diaper rash cream Desitin

Baby sunscreen

baby nail kit, or at least the clippers

an aspirator one that is a SINGLE piece ( the thing used to suck out their boogies)

hat and booties - esp if baby due during cold months

Onsies - roll them up and tie ribbon around

if it is a girl - hair accesories

COUPONS for all above and diapers (besides the paper, you can get some great ones online)

still have room? receiving blankets

Since you have a budget of $100, incorporate something from their list.

I left out binkies only because babies are sometimes specific on the type they end up liking, and if you get the wrong one, no matter how cute, they wont use it.
Reply:Wow, you are a good friend! Lots of people will be giving the baby powder, baby lotion, baby shampoo, etc. The ear thermometer already mentioned is an excellent idea. Also, a cool mist vaporizer. New moms don't think of it until baby is already sick. A couple of bottles of Pedialite for when baby is throwing up/diarrhea to keep them from dehydrating. Check the expiration date on the bottle to make sure it has at least 1 year to use. If not, only buy one. It could make all the difference at 2 am. The baby wipe warmer is a fantastic idea. My grandson screamed when it was time to change his diaper. It was just too cold. Another thought is a baby monitor. Another is a baby gate. Although they won't need for a few months, a good one can cost around $100 and by that time, they will have used all the formula, diapers, etc. they got. It will be hard to get a good baby gate and they would probably buy the cheap one you have to step over (many times with baby in hand). The risk of tripping is great. Get them one that opens with one hand and they can walk through. If they have dogs, this would be great for locking puppy up in the kitchen while baby is on the floor relaxing on a blanket or learning to crawl. I like to wait until right before the shower and then check the registry to see what is still needed. If nothing else is needed, you are off the hook with your friends wishes ;-) Good luck, Rail
Reply:Mine was my Diaper cake it was AMAZING!!! and two months in I am still using the diapers from it. Mine was a three layer cake my friend made on top Size NB second size one and third layer Size 2 on my cake she decorated with baby brushes bottles some onsies and a pair of shoes she made it herself and it looked great plus it was a nice decoration for the baby shower. Its not too much money and for about $100 I think you could make and or buy a great one that she'll remember forever!!!

Heres mine

And on ebay there is a member who has a store and she makes them with character designs like pooh precious moments ECT.

Butyou can make it yourself with just a little bit of time!

Plus you can put practical items on it like sample sized soaps lotions aby oil thermometors, a nose bubble ect.

Hope this helps!
Reply:well, my favorite items to give are clothing... or at least they WERE (just because they're so darn cute) until I had my own shower for my baby...

the things i appreciated the most were gift cards, diapers, essential items (bath stuff like towels, washcloths, shampoo, soap, a tub)

my sister actually gave me the best gift. she bought me my tub and filled it with EVERYTHING. some clothes, johnsons baby soap, baby powder, baby oil, shampoo, pacifiers, a changing mat, towels + washcloths, petroleum jelly, alcohol swabs, all of that kind of stuff. it was probably the best gift i received at my shower. it was just very practical, but also very thoughtful.
Reply:Diaper genie, Ocean wonders crib aquirium, diapers, if bottle feeding bottle steamer %26amp; bottle warmer, bibs with velcro closures, tempra, cover for car seat...for short jonts from house to car....just a few ideas.
Reply:A swing is great, so is a bouncy chair. I would pick the swing, my daughter loves hers!!
