What gift do you get a 6 yr old who just wrote his 1st story?

Usually he draws pictures and tells us the story behind it. But two days ago he "wrote" one. I could not believe it myself and you can imagine my excitement! Not that it could be a Harry Potter hit but because I am a poet myself and I saw him inheriting my talent.

But here comes my dilemma, what shall I do? I need to get him a gift related to writing. But I don't know what to get him. He is too young for a laptop. And it would be meaningless to get him a notebook with a pen!

What gift do you get a 6 yr old who just wrote his 1st story?
Start his library collection- Get him a couple books and a nice blank notebook. (Leatherbound, customized, etc.) Get him a nice pen and encourage his writings. If you don't want to be too bland, get him a canvas notebook and paints to draw with. Maybe arrange a basket of things in which it includes a children's dictionary. At the age of six, the best gifts are the ones that expand his imagination.
Reply:You could check out the website http://www.photoartomation.com/ArtWork/C... - Nice site to create a really personalized photo gift for someone special in your life.
Reply:Frame it. Hang it up. That is first of all. Then go out and buy him a beautiful book and tell him that one day, he will be writing beautiful books, too. My father has my first poem - written at age 6. It hangs on his living room wall. It's called Daddy. Had I known Sylvia Plath had already used that title, I would have selected another. And 6 year olds are not too young for laptops. They make special laptops for young children. Ask at Toys R Us. They are not toys though - they are actual computers. My son got his first computer when he was 2! Isn't it lovely when you see them inheriting your talent? I am a crime fiction writer - my son writes technical articles for computer magazines. But it was a proud day the first day he had an article published.

Reply:maybe some nice books that he can get ideas from
Reply:Oh good lord! He's SIX! Don't get so overwrought. Buy him an ice cream or something. Why would you want to make a big deal out of this to him? Haven't you read any literature yourself? This is just the kind of pressure that kids do not need. Lay off. One story does not a Shakespeare make. Six is a very imitative age. Just tell him "Nice work" and move on. Plant some flowers or go to the zoo or play catch. Just lighten up!

A laptop, for crying out loud !
Reply:Seems like you are pressuring him into being you. Just tell him good job and get him some ice cream.
Reply:Yup, ice cream. In fact, I think I'll go have some right now!

Reply:A perfect gift would be a special journal, maybe one that is personalized with his initials. This would encourage him to continue his writing, maybe include with it a gift certificate to a book store.
