As i understand it...clergy have to report monetary gifts as taxable income even though the giver expects it to be a gift to commemorate a birthday or anniversary etc.
How do I give my minister a gift so he doesn't have to declare it as income?
Ministers are required to report donations given to them in return for performing a service (wedding, baptism, funeral) as income -- however, the way I understand it, they do not have to include gifts that are truly meant to be *gifts*. Your minister should be aware of the exact rules and undoubtedly will follow them.
Reply:No, a gift is a gift. If it's for birthday or whatever. If it's for services rendered, a wedding, funeral, it's not a gift.
Reply:give it as a gift, not money, maybe gift certificate for dinner, movie theater, or to a favorite clothing shop, or to grocery store?god bless you for being concerned, or give it to the church in his name or to his favorite charity in his name?
Reply:If the gift is not in relation to any service, you can give anyone including a minister up to $12,000 tax free for both the donee and the donor.
Reply:It's called CASH.....
Reply:You give him a gift because you want to. It is a gift. Period. It is not a charitable contribution.
