What would be a Great gift to take to Korea from the United States?

We need to bring a gift to the Social Worker, Doctor, and President of the Adoption agency in Korea soon when we go there to get our new son. We are trying to think of something truly unique, something they would like to have that they can not get in South Korea. We figure they have lots of picture frames and lotion sets so we don't want to take something like that. We were thinking coffee or chocalate, but learned that they are imported commonly and that most people dont use coffee makers. Any suggestions?

What would be a Great gift to take to Korea from the United States?
Honestly, a lot of people find some chocolate too sweet in Korea, at least, from my personal experience. Growing up in a Korean household, we didn't eat a lot of chocolate, and the coffee we had was the instant coffee that a lot of other people mentioned.

Something that is not available in Korea to the extent that it is in the U.S. is honey. I know, you're probably thinking that it's really weird. The thing is, a lot of honey in Korea is not authentic, it's hard to find 100% pure honey, even in the grocery store.

When we go to visit Korea, my grandparents especially like it if we give them jars of honey. We don't get regular honey either, if you live next to a farmer's market, it'd be great if you could go pick up some from there.

Also, how about something tourist-ey? If you're from a big city in the U.S. perhaps you can buy them a t-shirt with the name of your city or something of the kind. Even a snow globe or a little trinket that has the name of your city should be interesting and unique as well, leaving a little bit of yourself behind.

Hope that helps~!
Reply:my parents usually send medicine :P

it's like x2 or x3 more expensive there then here like fish oil

vitamin and stuff like that. Report It

Reply:Congratulations on the adoption, you must be very happy right now.

A fine scarf and set of gloves will be nice for men or women, they will use it at winter time.

Or handbag/purse for women

Set of wallet/match/socks that you can find in tjmaxx/marshall

Of course everything that I mention also available for sale. Its not easy to find something that they dont have.

If you want something unique bring magnet from your state/city, many people will be very happy to get lots of magnet or other souvenirs with the name of the state/city.

Last thing, dont forget to eat lots of yummy authentic korean food there.Annyong Haseo (I'm not korean btw, but fans of korean drama)
Reply:i'm korean. i was born there and i was there until 15. i'm 25 now and i was there last year.

korea have more luxuary good then US. not only then import from us, they laso import from europe and australisa.. etc.

man seems to like whiskey... it's common gift in korea to give and receive the expensive whiskey.. buy at the duty free shop..
Reply:We commonly take alcoholic drinks to men and cosmetics to women. You can buy both from duty free on the airplane going over with your credit card - just remember there are limits on how much liquor you can bring in. Other ideas are US-made vitamins, candies, etc. Regular coffee is OK (many Koreans use instant coffee from little pouches), but don't take too much or Customs may question you.
Reply:I currently live in Korea, on an Air Base, and I have been for 3 years. I know that things that other people mentioned like designer bags, wallets, etc. they have a lot of, so I don't think that would fall under the unique area. Also, instant coffee is popular, but it's so popular that they already have it, so they don't really need it. I actually think that anything from America they would be happy with. I know that they actually do like whiskey or American alchohol or American Ham and honey, because it's something that they don't have. The type of ham in the metal type container. Also, I'm sure some type of meat that they do not have a lot of like ribs. My mother would always give our land lord ribs or ham and honey for holidays and stuff and one day the land lord came to our house and asked if we could buy her some of the ribs that we always gave her because her mother in law was coming over. To me, that shows she liked them. So maybe I suggest you get like a type of gift that they could display or something (any kind would probably suffice because it came from America) and then some type of maybe whiskey or meat.
Reply:Probably not a good idea to get chocolates. Koreans don't like things as sweet as us Americans do. Their cakes are different, their chocolates are different.

My stepmother actually likes high quality perfumes and lotions from the U.S. or Europe. She also likes designer brand items because the real thing in Korea is a lot more expensive.

As the other person mentioned, instant coffee is very popular, particularly because they can make it to their liking.
Reply:leather goods such as LV wallet, Coach purse, or Perfumes
Reply:Get something that is typical but looks a little expensive from the area you are coming from. It will also give you something to talk about when you get there when you explain it. It doesn't have to be really expensive, but it would be good to look expensive.
