What is an appropriate gift from a student to a male college professor?

There is one instructor that has been particularly helpful and inspiring to me throughout my education. I am set to graduate in May and would like to present him with something small yet meaningful in appreciation of him going out of his way several times to assist me in my studies. However, I am unable to find much gift for a male.

What is an appropriate gift from a student to a male college professor?
As a retired college professor I can tell you a sincerely written thank you note is about as good as it gets. However, even better would be if you send copies of that note to the department chair and to the dean and provost. Maybe mention his name to the committee that chooses the outstanding teacher each year. Every college professor needs that kind of documentation.

As far as a physical gift is concerned it would depend partly on his field. In many fields a book would be appropriate. In others perhaps some kind of tool he coud use in his work. One student gave me home made candy. Others gave me books. Another gave me a bottle of very good wine.

Don't give him anything until he has turned in his grades.
Reply:An apple, a nice "thank-you" note being specific about some of the things he did to help you, and some lottery tickets enclosed in the note.
Reply:Us guys arent into knick knacks or flowers or another stationery set. Get together with similar thinking students and start a scholarship or foundation in his honor and send him his favorite pizza.
Reply:Honestly, the best gift you could possibly give him would be a note expressing appreciation for all he has done.

So many professors hear complaints day in and day out, and receive few compliments. Your gratitude would be very meaningful to him, I promise.

( *And* he could put your note in his dossier -- a sort of annual report that is evaluated for purposes of raises, promotion and tenure.)

I wish you every success!
Reply:Write him a note -- on a card or just a letter and let him know just how you feel. It will help him know that whatever he's doing is the right thing and it will inspire him to continue. Let him know what a difference it has made in your life and how thankful you are that he was there to help you though. Encourage him to keep it up.

I don't agree with what the guy above me just said. Genuine words of thanks and encouragement are worth much more than any material gift could ever be. A pizza only satisfies for about 3 hours, then it's time to eat again. But your words of gratitude will encourage him forever.
Reply:perhapes a signed book by his favorite author or something from one of his hobbies or interest or a vey nice card and letter from you exspressing you heartfelt appreciasion for everything. a good true teacher will be happy just knowing they have made a difference in a students life and inspired them to go on and live a ful and very happy and good life. nd do grreat in their chosen feild of occupation. good luck. something that would have sentimentality with it for him. would also be a good choice perhaps a nice framed photo of you and him in class or a class photo giving it to him on graduation day would be a great idea also.
Reply:Here are few options:

* American Express gift card

* A tie if he wears one

* A figurine attached with a thank you card
