What is a good gift for my toddler to get for her new baby brother?

A friend suggested that when I have my 2year old daughter visit her baby brother in the hospital for the first time, that they give eachother a gift. I have bought something for him to give to her, but I don't know what she could give to him. Should I just take her shopping and let her pick something out for him? Did anyone else do something similar or have any other cute ideas for their first meeting?

Definetely take her shopping to pick out the gift. My son and I did this for the new baby and it meant so much to him, to feel like he was part of the whole process. He ended up choosing an outfit, and the baby wore it to get his newborn pics taken at the hospital, and to go home in. Every time I show off the newborn pics, my son exclaims "I bought him the outfit!" and is so proud. Letting them choose is important in making it a special and unique gift.
Reply:I have done the same with my children. I took my son to the store, baby aisle and let him pick out the gift, that way it was from him. With some guidence we got the perfect gift and he knows thats the one he got for his baby.
Reply:i did the same thing. take her to the store and let her pick it out.
Reply:You could let her choose his going-home outfit.
Reply:How about a blanket

Or a pair of booties

A bib or A onesie that you could use an iron on print out OR fabric paint that says "My Big Sister Loves Me"

How about a handprint/foot print making kit (check craft stores) for making the babies first prints as keepsakes? They could each do a hand and put their names on them.

A chew/rattle toy. Target has these in soft Ducks, frogs and other animals near the baby stuff. The feet have teethers and the plush animal is a rattle. My son still drags his around- it's a duck.
Reply:We did this too! My girls always got to go to the gift shop at the hospital and pick out something! Let them pick it out! I know its hard to do but they will always remember it!
Reply:you can let her pick this one, with some help. maybe pick out a few different things (toy, stuffed animal, pacifier, bottle) and then she can chose between the things you guide her to. I don't think my daughter gave her brother anything specific at the hospital. she shared lots of toys with him when he got home (that was short lived). she did feed him at the hospital and we have a pic of it for her. she was 3 1/2 though.
Reply:i've never done that because i only have on baby but i think it's so cute. i would take her with you and let her pick out something that she likes best for him that way when she see's you give it to the baby or see's the baby wearing it she will know that it is from her
