Who do I contact about an unredeemed gift certificate for a restaurant that burned to the ground?

I had received a gift certificate for a local restaurant (not a franchise) and didn't get the chance to use it. The restaurant burned to the ground a couple months later. The gift certificate said valid for one year and we had a newborn, so finding time was hard. Am I out of luck or is there somewhere I can go? I have not idea how to get in touch with the owner.

Send a letter to the address of the restaurant is the only thing I can think of. It should get forwarded to the owner. Good luck collecting because its unlikely the owner had fire insurance to compensate for un redeemed gift certificates.

Reply:Being that it is a local restaurant and not a chain- I think you are out of luck. Are they planning on rebuilding? if so, maybe after they reopen go to them and explain your situation and they might still let you use the gift certificate under the circumstances.

or you might look at this as a sign from above and stay the hell away from there! :)
Reply:I think you are SOL.
Reply:You Don't if the business no longer exist.
