What is an appropriate gift for someone who is throwing a party for having reached some achivments?

Specifically, they bought a house, found a job. Any suggestions for what to get them at the party they're throwing to celebrate? Do you help me to choose a nice gift.

Give them something of value and slightly more permanent...

can't be wine, chocolates or flowers.

That way they can keep it as a memento of their achievement...

It should also be geared towards the specific achievement.

Housewarming:

-A beautiful painting/ decal

-A clock

-Boardgames are a nice idea for a couple because very few ppl think of this, and it adds in something they can do with friends when they come over

-A household appliance, but it has to be something a little out of the ordinairy, that they don't have already

-A birdhouse

Job-success:

A nice fountain pen-set

A beautiful frame for their desk

...You get the idea

Hope this helps :)
Reply:That's wonderful!

I agree, something needed for the house is always nice. Linens are a good gift, but make sure the colours don't clash with their existing colour scheme.

You could arrange a gift basket yourself with a set of wine glasses, a bottle of wine, perhaps a gift certificate to a favoured restaurant, and some smaller things like a travel mug (for the new job), some little gourmet foods like chocolates, jars of jam, and cookies.
Reply:it's weird that they would be throwing a party for having bought a house or found a job. Jobs come and go, and homes go into foreclosure. They are going to be sooooo hurting. They should only celebrate when the mortgage is paid off.

Give them a nice card and a gift of food, just as though it were a house warming party (a get together of a few friends).
Reply:First of all say good luck to them. And about a gift you will gift them something they can use in their new house like a nice oil painting of them. Take a look for some good painting

Reply:If you're looking for a fun personalized gift for your loved one, these personalized pink soaps from http://www.soapcard.com should do the trick. they make soaps with your photo or just message embedded inside. I got one for my boyfriend and he loved it. You can write all kinds of funny stuff.... My boyfriend thought it was super cute! .the "Think of me when you're feeling dirty" soap was the one he loved the most
Reply:A good gift would be something that they need for the house. Something that would be convenient like a crock pot (they can set meals while they are away at their new job and they will be ready when they get back). It would also be nice to get them a crock pot cook book.
Reply:Some type of housewarming gift, such as a decorative item, might be nice, since one of the accomplishments is having bought a new house.

Congrats to your friend. :)
Reply:I'd say a nice bottle of wine, Unless they don't drink, and a assorted cheese tray.
Reply:U can probably give them a good luck charm to hang on the entrance of the house!!!!!!!
